Downloadable WACs and printing them

Somehow I've been able to download a WAC I need in pdf format. But I can't remember how I did it as I want to download another one. Any help?

 

Also, now that I have one chart that I want to use as a pdf file, what size sheet of paper does it have to be printed on so that distances on the map match the scale on my ruler?

A paper WAC is 552 wide by 443 high. This is just the map part in southern Australia, they get bigger as you go north?

if you can download the graphics file, for resizing, you need a good resizing program that correctly, anti aliases the down sampled content (or up samples)

 

Suggest IRVANVIEW

and use the resize-resample function  under the IMAGE menu.

for SIZE METHOD choose :resample better"  use filter LANCZOS

and check "preserve aspect ratio"

you can output in cm or inches or pizels, if in actual size you choose a DPI number, usuually 300 for printing.

OME - Are you saying you downloaded a WAC off the 'net for free? All the sites I've found want $$'s to supply a WAC. Did you acquire one as part of a site trial?

 

There's a useful and informative discussion on Aviation Stackexchange regarding WAC's. Did you know that the FAA ceased production of WAC's in 2015? I would imagine a 2015 WAC chart would be somewhat out of date today.

You can acquire 1:1 Million Scale General Reference topographical Maps for free from Geoscience Australia - and these are based on WAC charts. Instructions for printing these maps are on the Geoscience site.

It is easy to print WAC sections from OzRunways. I have only an A4 printer so need several pages for a long trip. I don’t know how to scale them correctly but print the route with 10 mile ticks.

Yeah ... if you print them to a size that's optimised for purpose, I suppose you could easily knock up a ruler to match.
