Pilot rescued after being trapped in plane crash in Mount Buffalo area

Pilot rescued after being trapped in plane crash in Mount Buffalo area - ABC News

Emergency services have rescued a man who was trapped following a plane crash in the Mount Buffalo area in Victoria's north-east.

Police said it was understood that the plane took off from Porepunkah about 4.40am before crashing into trees.

They said the male pilot, believed to be the sole occupant, was being treated at the scene.

Ambulance Victoria said its crews were called to reports of the accident just after 11am, with paramedics on the scene assessing the man.

"A man believed to be in his 50s is stable with upper and lower body injuries and will be airlifted to hospital," a spokesperson said.

Maybe there's an error in the hour digit.

Even if he'd flown all the way to Mount Buffalo that's only about 14 km.

An update:

Emergency services have rescued a man who was trapped following a plane crash in the Buckland Valley, in Victoria's north-east.

Police said the plane took off from Porepunkah airstrip about 4:40am before crashing into trees.

Emergency services were not called until just after 11am when the Canberra rescue coordination centre noticed a plane had not checked in and raised the alarm.

It's a cessna 172 apparently so pilot could have night VFR or instrument rating.

The picture shows the SW area of Mt  Buffalo and Porepunkah airstrip is in a nearby Valley. Certainly an early start. Freezing level wouldn't be very high.  nev

Sure. But no lights at Porepunkah.

I caught the rego. According to CASA rego search, it was a Cessna 182P. Amazing he got out alive.

That's a seriously solid whack to  do that  much damage. Is it a local person? Nev

Hasn't come out yet, but given it is a 182 and it's gone down near the airfield the 4:40 start may be correct, and it could be a somatogravic issue.

The pilot managed to free himself from the wreckage, but the long wait (around 6 hrs) before medical assistance arrived has possibly not helped him.

He's listed as being in a critical condition in hospital, and the next 24 hrs will be crucial for his survival, according to hospital sources. I wish the gentleman a good and satisfactory recovery.

He's certainly made a complete wreck of that aircraft, and many others have not survived crashes with a lesser amount of damage.

He’s definitely one lucky man, that does not look like a survivable impact. Where has the front gone. Does not look like a low energy impact to fold up that much.

I don't know about the pilot, but this is from Rego Search:
