Rotax 912

90° carby tube for choke cable. To get two of those genuine, about $150 Inc freight. Or go to Ali express 🙂

https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005004164377398.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.604cf19cHB72xq

I'm always mindful of cheap n cheerful. If it's something complicated and bespoke, I'll go genuine. But Rotax don't make the carbies, or the parts hanging off them. So why pay the Ro-tax?

Just realised I didn't put in the description that got me to this link. One day for sure the link will be dead, and no one will know what the description is! So here's the description in the link:

Well, I've taken so long building my plane that the company has stopped making them 😲 so my list (minus the engine parts) will become even more relevant for me over time.

They are restructuring, and will still be supplying parts. One thing I'm toying with is to get a spare set of sails. People say 'just get a sailmaker to copy them'. Problem is, they are pretty complicated sails, and I've heard some horror stories. Of course it's a HUGE expense holding onto a spare set, and they take up room in my already chockers garage.

You would have to store them very carefully, so as not to encourage pest infestation and subsequent holes.

I'd wait till needed someone will make them I'm sure; maybe even out of Xlam material. New should last well being hangared.  Could get covers made that will keep them in better condition; by Punkim Head Air Sports.

Oh, I have a cover for it. Although I've been slack while working on it and only covering the fuselage, mainly to keep the windscreen clean. And yes, if I couldn't hanger it, I probably wouldn't even own a plane, except maybe an all metal vh rego

If you keep it Hangared those skins will last a life time. They have much better UV resistance than dacron type skins like a thruster would have. I replaced the original skins on my 1988 thruster in 2017, Alan the sail maker tested them and they were still in spec. Always hangared.

In hoses my focus has been finding suitable substitutes for oil & radiator - I have forgotten about the 17mm ID coolant hoses.

Seems that there is nothing available (except from Rotax) in straight hose BUT you can purchase the following molded/shaped hose in 16.5 & 17 mm ID which can then be cut to the required lengths.

Note: Most installations will require a little over 2m in total, you will have to purchase more than one of the preformed hoses, so be sure to compare the total price with Rotax supply.

02-1579  16.5mm

02- 1249 16.5mm

02-0912 16.5mm  x 755 mm long

02-1415 17.00mm x 280mm long (see below)

Gates Heater Hose - 02-1415

Gates Silicone comes in ID 16mm (5/8) straight & formed. Silicone hose is usually super stretchy, so I assume  16mm will push on to a 17mm spigot/barb.

Rotax (& others?) spark plug caps.

Just found, on Rotax Owners Forum,  this alternative to OM:

"K&S Technologies part number is 10-4222MH

K&S caps, they are an exact duplicate of the NGK ones, except the rubber is silicone."

Was there an alternative to lockwire?

I have a vague recollection of someone saying some sort of welding wire was exactly the same and much lower in price.

Rotax 912 water/oil temp sensor (the more recent version, not the older style)

You can get the vdo part, exactly the same part, but it's not in a roTAX baggy. That's maybe half the price of a Rotax labelled vdo sensor.

Or you can get the aftermarket version, available in Australia for about sixty bucks including postage 🙂 mine is working well so far and has good reviews.

Should have done this before posting -

Seem to be only available from the USA - sorry!

Looks too thick, Don't think its suitable. who ever does the 5 yearly's at the airfield should have a number of used springs.  I put a smear of oil on the choke springs at oil changes.  I also carry a spare of the choke and the throttle spring in my onboard parts kit. (I gave a spare choke and throttle spring to my neighbouring mate for his vixxen that is going on a trip soon.
