skippydiesel Posted September 15, 2023 Author Posted September 15, 2023 Hi Area-51, Thanks for the terrific critique (with illustrations' for us simple folk). I was planning on wing root fairings/flairs for my new Sonex (similar performance to the Europa illustrated)- not so sure now.

The Sonex is a terrific aircraft just as it is with just 80hp, and does a few things better than the Europa. The weak point is the canopy frame flex fatigue failure and thin plexiglass thickness.

Goes like a "bat out of hell" - back in the "shop" for cooling system rethink (almost done).
Bruce Tuncks Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 If I had one, I sure would be trying things with foam and tape. I would think 3 knots would be a great improvement , after all, if this few knots enables you to arrive ok then it is cheap insurance. 1
facthunter Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 STOL planes do not have to be excessively draggy. A bit of a clean-up works all the time you are in the air. Nev
