The vent tube has become loose on one of my fuel caps.......the manual states that it is fastened with loctite 620 which I will redo.

Question... which way are the vertical row of holes in the vent tube meant to face...forward or back ?.

The manual suggests that they face the roll-pin locater  on the cap, which in my Jab is to the rear ?

thanks guys Chas Qld

G’day Chaz , the holes face forward to give a slight +be pressure to the tank …..Bob

No expert on Jab's  - while you defiantly don't want to induce a vacuum on the tank, the level of positive pressure, developed by a pitot tube sized breather, facing into wind, will have little benefit. A static pressure breather is just as good.

On most small aircraft, the vertical fin presents the highest relative point, it is here that the breather should be located/terminated, removing almost all concerns about venting fuel overboard when parked/refueling on a slope or making fast ground manoeuvres. It also allows for volatile fumes to exit well away from the engine/refueling points minimising any chance of ignition.

Running a line with fuel possibly in it the length of the fuselage would not appeal to me. Most venting is done at wing tips to be out of the way..  Nev

a friend inadvertently replaced one of his tank caps with the vent holes facing aft. Sucked a lot of fuel out on a short flight. Don't do this!

A pressure imbalance works much the same as flying one wing low or the ball a bit off centre.. You can actually vent fuel off in some circumstances. Nev
