lyle janke Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 hi does someone have a solution to stop the orange ducting used in the engine bay fraying /falling to bits on either end . just a PITA
skippydiesel Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 (edited) Possible solution; Hight Temperature Silicon Gasket stuff liberally rubbed in/around so as to bind the fibres. May have to put a stiff plastic tube in the end you are working on, so that you maintain the ID & round shape Its not ducting , its insulating/heat/fire resit ant sleeve Edited June 7, 2023 by skippydiesel 1

Thruster88 Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Only solution is a new piece. My observation in GA maintenance world is that it is quite durable. Make sure the hard pipes have no sharp edges. Support hose onto any fixed structure with silicone. Don't over tighten the clamps. 1

You could be right - we should await clarification 😆 Two more thoughts: Paint on insulation stuff - might be better as can probably be done in situ Self annealing insulation tape - in situ application If its SCAT the above two might just do the job -
Thruster88 Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 The method of repair depends on how you want your engine bay to look.
lyle janke Posted June 7, 2023 Author Posted June 7, 2023 hi my description seems to be confusing some of you the tubing has a spring coil on the inside to stop it collapsing & a thread wound up the spiral on outside to maintain integrety of pipe . it connects the carbir to airbox & airbox to intake duct there is also a smaller Dia pipe supplying hot air to carby when it has been cut to length there is no terminnation of wire or thread leading to eventual soft end which is hard to push on pipe & then secure with hoseclip see attach photo of pipe type i was referring to it may well have a more technical name
RFguy Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 wow that's nice and clean. Consult your LAME , L2 or A&P for info . dont worry about it. just ensure NOTHING is rubbing on it. It's not just random tube- it is high temperature, durable, expensive sh1t 1
skippydiesel Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Yeah! SCAT tube can have messy ends - sort of goes with the product. Still think one of my "possible" solutions may help but in the end (😁)ts more of an aesthetic issue than a functional one.
RFguy Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 and any repair- consider what you do NOT want sucked down the pipe into your carburettor if it came loose.
skippydiesel Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Self amalgamating tape , on the outside, then. Comes in a nice bright red or black - there may be other colours I am unaware of. 1

trailer Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 (edited) If you are experimental you could look at race car scat hose which is 1/4 of the price. Edited June 8, 2023 by trailer 1
