red750 Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Australia to buy 20 C-130 Hercules aircraft from the US for $6.6 billion Australia said Monday it will buy 20 new C-130 Hercules from the United States in a 9.8 billion Australian dollar ($6.6 billion) deal that will increase by two-thirds the size of the Australian air force’s fleet of its second-largest heavy transport aircraft. The first are expected to arrive in 2027. The announcement follows the U.S. Congress' approval last year of a larger sale of 24 of the Lockheed Martin-manufactured propellor-driven aircraft.
Jabiru7252 Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Is my math correct? 9.8billion divided by 20 is $490 million each. That seems absurd to me. 1
onetrack Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 The deal would cover parts, specialised service tooling, and other backup materials - along with all the desirable "accessories" to make the aircraft much more versatile. However, one does have to question the overall cost per aircraft. As with all Defence purchases, they give the equipment sellers an open chequebook, and just sign after the amount is inserted. After all, it's only taxpayers money. https://the-riotact.com/twenty-new-hercules-for-the-raaf-to-cost-wait-how-much/686234
facthunter Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 It would depend on how they are fitted out and equipped for various purposes. Have a look at the timex older version at HARS, and the equipment it carried. One of the ones Abbot used to look for the Malaysian Plane and get votes. The newer versions are a completely different Plane to the older Hercs. . Some of the equipment may be unique to our requirements. Nev 1
