I guess since the new mob took over (Flylight) in 2017 I think they've made a few changes on the Skyrangers and then having to supply parts on the earlier French built planes and the changes they made over time must be a slight headache for them . Anyway hopefully be back flying in a few weeks and thanks everyone for their input. Cheers Guy. Nice, recon you will have parts in 6 or 7 days.
spitfire Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Still waiting on Flylight to come back with a delivery date… 🙁 1

Hi Mike and I eventually got the new piston and o-rings which were the correct size 😁 I had to get the master cylinder re-sleeve as it had a bit of wear in the bore. Apparently not a easy job re-sleeving a composite master cylinder. I've got it back together and now I have brakes, it was getting tiring hanging my leg out to brake and not to mention the wear on my Lowa shoes. 1 1
Guy s Posted September 4, 2023 Author Posted September 4, 2023 Here's a photo of the new piston and showing the re-sleeve master cylinder. 1
spitfire Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Hi Guy, thanks for the info and photos, it’s a good heads up on what I might be facing. Could you see the bore was damaged or did the brakes just not work ? thanks Michael
Guy s Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Hi Michael, shining a torch down the cylinder I could actually see a fine scratch running down the bore and also what look like possible wear in one area of the bore which the master cylinder, brake specialists confirmed. The new sleeve I'm guessing is stainless but I forgot to ask and guessing the original bore would've been just aluminium and if that's the case it should never need re-sleeving. But I guess you should never say never right🤣 1
facthunter Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Aluminium will corrode and wear in brake systems with the "usual" oil. The Older cast iron would last longer. Nev

spitfire Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Thanks Guy and Nev, when I built the Skyranger I remember cleaning up the inside of the bore with a dowel wrapped in fine wet and dry, as per Greg Robertson’s’ recommendation. So I guess it’s done well for 10 plus years of service…given it’s only aluminium… 2 1
