I am trying to use the DEMO version and am getting no end of grief when I use/start it.

I have a FFB USB (Saitek) joystick.

It has 4 axis.   Pitch, roll, rudder, and throttle.

When XP-12 starts and I calibrate the joystick, three are 5 axis shown.

The people who write XP-12 aren't being much help blaming the fact the joystick is 20 years old.

But if I open the windows calibrate setting, there is only 4 axis shown.

So this extra axis is being created by XP-12 to my best guess.

And - another annoyance:

EVERY TIME I load XP-12 ALL/ANY calibrations are LOST and I have to re-calibrate the joystick.  I have rudders and other stuff, but haven't got to doing them yet.

Anyone here have any ideas what is going on?

I reverted back to xp11.

Xp12 is useless for practicing instrument procedures.

When asked why the aircraft is bouncing in clouds, zero wind, with all default settings, they asked me to look outside whether any of controls is deflected.

Mine is paid version, regretted purchase.

Thanks for that....

How is 11 then?

I HAD MSFS ... version 9 - I think - way back in 2000.

And had/have a heap of stuff that plugs into it (Hardware / instruments) that would be nice to be able to use on the NEW setup I am making.

Be it XP or MS.

I still have a cd with msfs from 2 decades ago which was the last time I've used it, however back then I didn't have knowledge that I have now.

The reason for going xplane was the local flying school use it for sims (I think version 9 or 10), so decided to buy xplane for practicing at home.

There were glitches both in "$ertified" xplane as well as in home version 11, but the latest version 12 was literally useless (unless you are flying autopilot, which you won't at the IR check).

Latest msfs has better scenes/graphics, but really haven't played it much. I think msfs is more of a game vs xplane is more of a sim.

I am hoping they will fix the xplane12.

Yeah, that's where I'm torn.

As good as the graphics are in M$'s version I've heard it is a lot less realistic.

But yes, if XP are being difficult......

$2000+ worth of hardware sitting here as addons.   😞

I'd really like to use them.   But still not sure which one is the better one.

You will probably end up buying both.

Practicality-wise, buy whatever they use in your flight school ?

ahh just seen "non-pilot" under your avatar..

Sims are great for instrument flying which comes at later stages of learning, but not much for ab-initio (maybe for procedures only).

Make sure you have rudder pedals and use them in flight. If not, you will struggle to fly real aeroplane..

Bosi72,

Thanks for reminding me....   I've updated my status.

5 years no flying is not fun.
