Well isn't it reasonable that if a person is tested by a Dame and has no symptoms, that he gets his Class 2 without any conditions?

Or if the local GP or Dame sees symptons that this triggers CASA decisions based on the black and white medical regulations?

That would be reasonable, I would have thought, but this is CASA we are talking about! I believe that you would be hard pressed to find anyone across the aviation industry at any level with a kind word for them! It would appear from what I have seen as an engineer and pilot over 40yrs in Australia that they are an unstoppable juggernaut and far and away the biggest impediment to General Aviation in this country! (Rant over!!!)

I have beaten the system by going RAA. CASA required several annual reports from specialists that the specialists told me were not otherwise necessary and cost a lot of money, including scans and that stress test.

The way CASA treats people who do the right thing and declare every medical event in their history requiring a myriad of additional tests after the Pilots DAME has given their OK it isn't any wonder that many lie or refuse to divulge information about a past issue. There have been quite a few threads on this subject in the past where pilots have had to spend $10,000.00 or more to try and get through the CASA brick wall, sometimes to no avail. That expenditure was to try and satisfy CASA after their DAME had given the all clear.

OR ,!!!!

Work Against CASA's Bureaucrocrats.

It may send a message  ! .

Or are they really ' that thick ' .

I don't like  Bureaucrocrats,  & won't play with them .

Your DAME, or Specialist cannot over rule the CASA Chief Medical Officer. It's been like this for ages and some of them have been pretty hard to deal with. One particular Individual, If you questioned him, wrote on your file that you were psychologically disturbed.. After I found some ridiculous "Opinion" on my fille I requested further scrutiny and was told the file was lost (Yeah Right). It's a bit like if you pay peanuts you get monkeys . No one would want the job who had what is required .. There were good ones in times past.  I  used to play Tennis with one. Nev

Giving up GA, the hard thing is acknowledging that you will never own or fly that plane that you always admired. It may have been a dream, but it was nice to think about. RAA is a wonderful opportunity, but it is sort of like giving up flying, if you know what I mean.

I have the plane that I wanted, I built it and I fly it, but it is VH registered. It could be RAA because it is a Zenith CH701 but it is a hard decision to make!

I continue with the Class 2 medical because the Class 2 Basic cost me more than the class 2.  I also had ideas of doing some aerobatics. I did the Basic some years ago and the eye test cost made it too expensive.  Now I have to do a stress test maybe the basic is an option.  Does anyone know if I need a stress test for a Basic?

You might have to search for it but there is a thread on that. The Basic is a fast track for people with no issues - which covers thousands of pilots  mostly young. Your experience is a good example; better to start with the DAME at Class 2 rather than cop extra costs on the way there anyway.

Did one of my usual aerobics classes this morning.  Max heart rate according to Samsung watch was 188 bpm.  I have not dropped dead yet, if I do I will keep you all informed.  Lol

Actually it is not good, it happens before my body heats up.  I pushed too hard with cold arteries/ veins as soon as they heated and expanded the maximum was 165 bpm.  Much more reasonable. I have had an angegram ( x-ray of heart with die injected) it showed minimum artery blockage. It also showed that I have 3 arteries going to the heart, normally there are 2.  Nature have me a bypass operation lol.

For the Bruce's Protocol. (Aviaton) test they only need to get you to 150pulse rate.  I'd consult a cardiologist about the RISK. Having a heart attack is no help. Often  some heart muscle tissue is killed and the blood doesn't flow well and you are more likely to have a stroke from then on due to clots forming.. Nev

I have an artery just above the heart that crosses over  in a way different to normal . I don't think it will make a significant difference.. It's your life Geoff but I wouldn't want to be doing any STRESS ECG as it carries a known risk. CASA don't care as long as you don't die while flying and it's not effective in  any real assurance that you will be ok AFTER you pass the test anyhow.  Nev

Hi Nev, I expect that your artery is the same one that I have.  Found in 30% of the population, always comes from the aorta  and goes to the heart in addition to the other 2 all people have.  It is never found in babies.  Nature have you a premature bypass operation.  I am no cardiologist but I expect that you have a good cardio system.  😊

My heart is what they call "normal" but more due to my research and diet etc than the Usual well worn track  the usual cardiac patient gets to go on . I "unblocked" an artery, something that most consider impossible.. Be aware of your body signals.  This  stress ECG thing I've been scrutinising since I got involved in Airlines in 1965. because it's so easy to lose your flying job.  Good luck with your thing but do your research . Being alive beats the next best as far as I  know. Nev

I maintain a class one, it’s a pita but necessary if I want to see the curvature of the Earth every now and then!

It has calculated risks. Ask any cardiologist (except those performing stress tests.) You won't see the curvature of the earth from below Ground.   Nev
