red750 Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 For the second time in a fortnight a large international aircraft has missed workers on the shortened north-south runway by metres. The northern end of the runway is closed for resurfacing, but the two aircraft left their liftoff too late, almost hitting runway workers and equipment. Runway lighting was damaged. Malaysia Airlines was involved in one of their aircraft took off late. The other was a Bamboo Airlines flight. Runway work will now be suspended when the runway is active. 2 1
facthunter Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 You don't lift off late unless you're too heavy for the runway length. They must have neglected to apply the ACTUAL runway length available. Nev 1 1
BrendAn Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 i am suprised that workers would be at the end of an active runway. i have delivered materials to that job and they are pretty strict on safety, that is a major f/u to allow those people to be working there with a plane pointed in their direction. there are going to be hours of safety meetings and wrist slapping on that site now. a few sackings too. 1 1

Perfectly safe if the crew RTFNotam and apply the correct TODA in their performance calculations. In this case, I'd wager they didn't, for whatever reason and they're going to be in for tea, no bikkies with the CP... Our back yard is at the end of the local runway, such that if someone undershoots, or fails to get airborne the other way, the kids are gonna get a new cubby house. We've been mowing, doing earthworks and just flogging around on motorbikes with planes upto and including Falcon 8's and Herc's passing 100' over our heads and don't feel unsafe in the slightest. 2
Area-51 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Did they have one of these units installed on the active runway? I see them everywhere while driving around. Very affective at preventing these kinds of situations; not quite sure how, but they are all over the place like bin chickens. Except in the outback; they never seem to be visible out there in the outback. 1 1

Form Ply is dangerous. It has formaldehyde in it. Somebody at the airport might grind it up and burn it in a confined space and die from the toxic fumes after the third day of constant burning and inhaling, in the confined space. Has to be a confined space. 1
