duncan_rtfm Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Hi, I'm looking for XPS foam sheets in Brisbane. I'm not interested in the crap sold by Bunnings - I'm looking for something like the Dow blue foam quality. I can get XPS sheets from Perth or Melbourne - but I'm looking for a Brisbane supplier/manufacturer. I got a dozen or so sheets from a local supplier a while back, but can't find them again. Google can't find them. Help. Any ideas?
onetrack Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 (edited) It appears StyroMAX in Darra should be able to supply your needs. However, be aware they only sell, full size sheet sizes (600mm x 2500mm), no on-site cutting is allowed. https://styromax.com.au/products/dow-styrofoam/ Edited November 5, 2023 by onetrack
KRviator Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 (edited) The Foam Company has it (and online prices too!), address seems to be Archerfield, but they say "may be dispatched from multiple warehouses in Bris-Vegas" Edited November 6, 2023 by KRviator
onetrack Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Note that the foam company has a minimum $200 spend on any purchase.
johnm Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 also to help you search for other suppliers ..................... ? don't think its XPS - its EPS (expanded polystyrene)
onetrack Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 John, it's known as "extruded polystyrene", thus the "XPS" name. There's a substantial difference between extruded and expanded polystyrene, the expanded polystyrene is much less dense. https://www.usimm.ca/en/polystyrene-panels-should-you-choose-expanded-or-extruded-polystyrene/#:~:text=The Difference between Expanded Polystyrene,on average for XPS vs.
onetrack Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 The full name of the stuff that Duncan is looking for, is "Dow Styrofoam™ RTM-X XPS". It's a very high density, blue-coloured foam, with primary uses in high-grade fibreglass sandwich panel construction, in the construction industry as a gap filler between concrete panels, and in many other construction areas as well. It's a high-strength foam with good thermal insulation properties. We have a local company producing fibreglass sandwich panels for the construction of caravans, truck bodies, and even transportable buildings using this stuff, it makes for a premium-grade sandwich panel. A friend about 300kms away in the S.W. of W.A. is building a caravan using this sandwich panel, I actually transported the sandwich panels for him, as they comprised several 8M x 2.5M sheets (too long for him to transport) - and I got a good tour of the factory and the products they're using. The company is owned by a Kiwi bloke, who's a pretty clever operator. http://www.advancedfibreglass.com.au/fibreglass-insulation-panels.html Styrofoam RTM-X XPS brochure - http://nebula.wsimg.com/c85c0564aef9ffdb4dd3b78fecf62866?AccessKeyId=123FD79F158CB204173C&disposition=0&alloworigin=1 RTM-X XPS Technical data - https://styromax.com.au/app/uploads/2013/10/Styrofoam_RTMX-Tech-Data.pdf 1 1 2

Jackmcw Posted June 12 Posted June 12 I get both my black EPE for packaging components and Neolon foam (which I believe is XPE but is higher quality than XPS and cheaper from my understanding) from PJ Bowers they are located in queensland as well. https://foamproducts.com.au/product/neolon-xpe-foam/ https://foamproducts.com.au/product/packaging-epe-foam/
