facthunter Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Roar Footage. 3 Jacobs going there. Nev 1
facthunter Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Flying a chopper near it not only ruins the sound of the engines for us, but it's NOT that clever. Nev
Garfly Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 (edited) Yeah ... hopefully - in post - shots from the chopper will be combined with the static cam stuff plus some on-board angles and then righteous roars will replace those ruined raws. Edited December 11, 2023 by Garfly 1
facthunter Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 It's dangerous flying a chopper near a plane landing or taking off anytime let alone when no one is recent on that plane and it's being test flown. Nev 1
facthunter Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 THAT replica is ONE plane I'd like the opportunity of flying. In Contrast I'd not worry about not ever flying a Fokker F 27 again. Their DC-4 Yes please. Very good memories of the challenges shared and a Genuine Lady of the Skies that carried two American Presidents across the North Atlantic when they were New. Nev 1
Thruster88 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 We had a test pilot speak at one of our aero club dinners a few years back. One of his jobs was the Southern Cross replica, I think he described it as challenging. 1 2
facthunter Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Very likely so. Little rudders were the order of the day. I also tend to 3 point Taildraggers as District Park at Newcastle wasn't very big. Hardly anyone seems to 3 point today.. Nev 1

facthunter Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 (edited) Do you see many others doing it?. I haven't. I do a wheeler IF the conditions justify it Gusty etc, but plan what ever you want before doing it Nev Edited December 12, 2023 by facthunter 1

I do a wheeler IF the conditions justify it Gusty etc, but plan what ever you want before doing it Nev Curtis Aviation, Camden, seem to do most of their training in Citabrias - that's where I did my tailwheel endorsement. They train you to do a 3 pointer first , when that has been achieved, they move on the the wheel landing. My Sonex doesn't have a lot of prop clearance - a heavy wheel landing might just result in a bit of ploughing - best to stick with 3 pointers. 2 1
facthunter Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 My logic was IF you do lose directional control the ground loop will be much slower IF you have 3 pointed the plane and you use less runway than wheeling it on. Nev 1 1
Garfly Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 This one has no chopper noise spoiling the audio: 3
facthunter Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I'm pretty impressed with the Bloke Piloting that though a 3 pointer might be better on a rougher field which many of them would have been in their day. Nev 1
