The words catastrophic were used in conjunction with Victoria the State and Fire conditions. If you’d read my posts you would have seen that the fire warning was made three times, once the day before, 5:30 on the morning and two hours before the opposite occurred; a short hailstorm and high winds knocked out a lot of power lines. When these three “catastrophic” FIRE warnings were being issued the CFA had applied their “catastrophic” zoning to just 2.2% of the State.

What knocked out the Large towers was the DOWNBURST. Pre 80 they didn't include it in the design. so some of them  failed.. Others got damaged by falling trees and that takes a fair time to rectify as the roads are obstructed..  nev

dumbass jacinta said it was a combination of wind and heat. she never mentioned they ignored advice about the condition of the transmission towers a few years back.

The average person wouldn't know what a downburst was. Plenty of Pilot's don't. Also imagine the criticism of replacing towers that hadn't  failed up to that point. Everyone's an expert in hindsight in these things. Jeff Kennet sold the whole lot off anyhow so we lost control at that point. .  Nev

There was no crisis with the major grid infrastructure resulting from these towers going down. 400,000 homes lost power when the hailstorms and wind hit. The Power companies advised the issue wasn't the towers; they were switching the grid to bypass them and the issue was the number of power lines brought down by trees and they would be carefully fixing these aeas one by one, on the grounds of safety. By about the end of the second day 300,000 were back on line, a couple of days later it was down to 12,000 then 3000, and then it got harder up in the Dandenongs where a lot of big trees had fallen over.  A bit similar to SA a few years ago and a long way off "catastrophic" although the word stuck with one newspaper reporting the storms to be catastrophic.

The government loves the word catastrophic as it scares the minions just like the deadly Covid conn did.

shame the (CoNvid) killed far less than their vaccine did.

its all about instilling fear in to people.

Damn when I was a kid we must have had hundreds of catastrophic days over the summers in my youth, we were just not scared back then because we had many days nearing 45 deg or more not 35.

If you read the first few posts you'll find that ATSB are investigating this accident.

That means there will be a first report out in a few weeks (but not much detail).

Then there will be a very detailed analysis when ATSB have completed all their own investigations, interviewed witnesses and others who feel they have something to contribute, and then completed their decisions based on the analysis. It is VERY thorough and they don usually need social media comments, so (a) this thread would quickly disappear into history, and (b) if we stuck only to the subject we would lose hundreds of discussions which extends learning.
