My wood one is a pain - leave it in for a smidgeon too long and the fuel migrates up. My perspex, finger on top type, is pre is pre marked, so level must be compared with a calibration chart - pain on the aft region!😈 1
facthunter Posted December 12 Posted December 12 One that floats and note where it stops with reference to the filler surface. Nev
greybeard Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Maybe hardwood rather than softwood would reduce the rate of wicking.
onetrack Posted December 12 Posted December 12 The best material for dipsticks is black anodised aluminium strip or bar. This material is what is used in commercial fuel storage tanks - however, they utilise square extrusions, which would be too big for recreational aircraft fuel tanks. Watch out for powder coated finishes, they're not as durable as anodising.
