Guest brentc Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Graham, an aircraft can be registered RA or GA with any instrument combination as long as it has the minimums. In fact you could have a RA registered Jab with all possible instruments on the dash, versus a GA Jab with near nil instruments like a J120. Historically when you are talking GA aircraft like Cessna 152 & 172's, most came with NVFR packages which included AH & DG, but they are not legally required for day VFR. Indeed the pilot of the GA OR RA-Aus aircraft currently needs a PPL to fly into controlled airspace. It does seem silly that a PPL doesn't require you for RA-Opeations as the licence is a higher category.
