danny_galaga Posted June 15 Posted June 15 People in boat injured. All plane occupants ok. As you can imagine, sea plane activity in Vancouver is very busy
ClintonB Posted June 15 Posted June 15 A mate was staying in a hotel overlooking the take off area only 2 days before. When I showed him this, he showed me the pics and video from his stay. He was fairly shocked at the sight of it.
pmccarthy Posted June 15 Posted June 15 There is an aircraft operations area. I don’t think boats are supposed to be there. 1 1
440032 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Did anyone else hear the Dukes of Hazzard DIXIE horn play just as he jumped that boat? Nice one Bo. 2

BurnieM Posted June 16 Posted June 16 In all areas in NSW I have seen float planes landing boat operations are permitted. A lot of bitching about boat speed restrictions not applying to float planes.
facthunter Posted June 16 Posted June 16 How could they? You'd never get airborne. At Rathmines before any Plane Landed several fast boats would keep the area clear. Vision forward from a seaplane taking off is often not that good either and it HAS to take off into wind and would require a defined length to be available not heading to rising ground.. Nev 1
Litespeed Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I am definitely on the pilots side. How deaf and blind would you have to be. It's not like the beaver is a quite aircraft in any way. Nor is it easy to miss it in your vision. As someone who lives on water, the master/captain/ imbecile driving that boat is incredibly lucky and completely without excuse. You are responsible for 360 degrees around you ,not just straight ahead. Just hope they were drunk and get charged appropriately. Poor pilot and passengers. 2

spacesailor Posted June 16 Posted June 16 There is a ' float ' plane inspection/ repair base at the " Old Halvorson's Shed " Kissing point . No signs anywhere for incoming aircraft. OR WAS , The last time I visited . spacesailor 1

Marty_d Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Probably not uncommon. Work colleague has just come back from Canada a couple of weeks ago. He and his wife had a float plane tour from a town there (not Vancouver, although they did visit there too). He had a video of the landing from inside the plane (DH Otter) - just before touchdown the picture jolted as the pilot swerved to avoid a boat headed straight across the landing point. Couple of seconds later you see the boat scooting across the side window having done a tight turn to avoid the plane, then the plane touched down on the wake and bounced a bit. That scared him enough - I'll send him this video too, saying hey - it could have been worse! 2
spacesailor Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Floatplanes are not only in the other side of the world . We do have them in Australia and New Zealand. Another ' aircraft/boating ' problem is sailing a large yacht past the Mascot airport , and catching a sailfull of " jetblast " of jumbos taking off . spacesailor 1
