The risk of dying doing what we love

the authorites have created a paranoia regarding the speed limit - we have cars in 100 kmh zones doing 90 kmh to avoid a ticket .......... and a fair few other cars, behind,  all trying to overtake that car

Leniency has gone out the window - you are merely driving a machine that is potenmtially a contributor to a state budget

This is why I love cruise controls, particuarly smart cruise controls.

Minimum trip time with minimum stress.

In Victoria if you haven't been pinched for speeding in the last 12 months and are not far over they will waive it. Also they take off 3 for error.. It's the deadly red light change you have to watch. Nev

Even for speed cameras?

Not pulling over to allow following vehicles to pass is just plain ignorance.  Plenty of countries where this is custom/law enforcing what should be a courtesy. Any driver/vehicle that is not maintaining the speed limit (subject to road conduction) should either pull over to allow the que to pass or be pulled over by the cops.😈

Isn’t it amazing how bad drivers are these days? I mean, when we were young, we were all really good drivers and no one ever got killed in car accidents (I think the weather was always nice back then too).

Nsw has gone too far .

A school has been demolished but the sign's  and fines are still in use .

One or twi k's over the limit .

Fat chance, when you get a $ 500 fine for 0.05 of a second red light camer . What is that in fractions ? .

Just driving too slow .

Shows '' not safety " only revenue raising.

( it was green as I started ) .

Personal Responsibility used to be a thing, but that was a long long time ago

It's nice to reminisce about personal responsibility, but in the 'good ol days' drink driving was off the scales. Not so much personal responsibility there...

No they just drive through red lights and kill you or rear end you when you stop at one..  Nev

Yes, that used to happen a lot when there was so much drunk driving...

I have done that " pub crawl " by car .

One pint per pub , always got sleepy before dangerous.

Without the car , had to piggyback sleeping members

of the pubcrawl . No easy task with two heavily pregnant woman in the group .

Those 'were' the days my friends.

In the so called good old days many people drove home from the Pub after a night out drinking. I know people who shut one eye to make sure they could only see one white centre line. Some stopped to have a rest and woke up the next morning & then drove home, probably still drunk. Some got home OK but couldn't remember how, others crashed & didn't get hurt, others were injured or died. It was as stupid then as it is now but in the good old days cars were nowhere near as powerful or fast as they are now. Their brakes weren't that flash either & ABS, EBD & other features didn't exist, neither did crumple zones or the latest automatic features that will brake for you or stop. They (as my EV does) watch you via a camera and detect your blinking patterns to show when you have lost concentration and make sure your grip on the steering wheel is right.

These feature cost money and are not present in all modern cars and in some cases can be turned off or disabled. Then again most can all be over-ridden by the driver.

The good old days were not good at all. It is just a nostalgic look at the past to when things were simpler and of course there were a lot fewer cars on the road.

In those " good old days " we had proper bumpers that

Actually worked.  Even a 30 " mph " , urban crash your car ' normally ' drove to the garage to be mended .

Unlike theses modern ' shit boxes ' , that rust away even when Not used .
