red750 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 A light plane has crashed near a rural town in Victoria. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene near Redesdale, a small town 100km northwest of Melbourne, after the plane crashed at 12.35pm on Friday. One person has died, the Herald Sun reports. 440032 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 (edited) Crashed onto my friend's neighbour's farmland. He said everything with cherries and berries and sirens went screaming down his road past his place. Flight radar shows who's who from about 0220z. HEMS3 from Bendigo got there pretty quick. cherk Posted September 13 Posted September 13 (edited) "They" did say Cirrus ! coz everyone knows a parachute comes with a CIRRUS !🤔 And Cirrus isn't aluminium ! Edited September 13 by cherk additive 1
ClintonB Posted September 13 Posted September 13 The “aviation experts” they had on claimed it was a cirrus on 7 news. regardless a sad day for all involved and their families 1
onetrack Posted September 13 Posted September 13 It was a Bristell NG5 and it appears the ballistic parachute was deployed too late, to be of any use. /graphics/ICAOtype/NG5.gif Accident BRM Aero Bristell NG5 , Friday 13 September 2024 ASN.FLIGHTSAFETY.ORG A light aircraft crashed in Redesdale, Victoria. The pilot died and the aircraft was destroyed by a post crash fire.
ClintonB Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Were these the aircraft that had an ordinary spin characteristics as a problem for a while? 2
rhtrudder Posted September 14 Posted September 14 (edited) I thought the bristell was aluminum, but it looks like fiberglass the way the fire took hold Edited September 14 by rhtrudder 1
Flightrite Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Be interesting to find out if there was any ‘cowboy’ flying going on at the time! 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I was thinking how does one go from straight and level into a spin... But, it could be anything from "cowboy" flying to a structural failure. So would not want to speculate at this stage. 1 1

Flightrite Posted September 14 Posted September 14 RIP Mark Freedtone, out of Penfiled🙁 Stories are beginning g to build, low hour pilot, new plane (to him) and some rather lowish aggressive stunt/aerobatic flying, that combined with the type was not (if true) a smart combination!🙁 2 1
onetrack Posted September 15 Posted September 15 This is possibly a useful item of information to anyone planning to fly a Bristell. Bristell Pilot performed Aerobatics before Crash: ATSB - Australian Flying WWW.AUSTRALIANFLYING.COM.AU An ATSB investigation report into the crash of a Bristell found that the pilot had performed manoeuvres classified as aerobatics in the moments before the crash. 1

aro Posted September 15 Posted September 15 9 hours ago, Flightrite said: Stories are beginning g to build, low hour pilot, new plane (to him) and some rather lowish aggressive stunt/aerobatic flying There have been references in discussions of this accident to a previous accident involving the same aircraft type - are you sure you're not confused? I haven't seen anything similar about this accident, it seems early to know those sort of details anyway. Have you heard details first hand about this accident - i.e. not just read it on the internet?
onetrack Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Flightrite, a search reveals no-one by the name of Mark Freedtone of Penfield. Did you mean to type Freestone or Freedstone? Have the Police released the pilots name? It's bad form to name deceased pilots in crashes, before the Police have publicly released the pilots name officially. Meantimes, the ATSB has stated that they're not investigating, as the aircraft was RA-registered. There can't be too many Bristells on the RA register? 1 1
