A light plane has crashed near a rural town in Victoria.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene near Redesdale, a small town 100km northwest of Melbourne, after the plane crashed at 12.35pm on Friday.

One person has died, the Herald Sun reports.

The plane crashed in paddocks, and police have reportedly blocked access to a rural property in the area as their investigations begin.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said: 'The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined, more information will be provided when it is appropriate to do so'.

Crashed onto my friend's neighbour's farmland. He said everything with cherries and berries and sirens went screaming down his road past his place.

Flight radar shows who's who from about 0220z. HEMS3 from Bendigo got there pretty quick.

It was a Bristell NG5 and it appears the ballistic parachute was deployed too late, to be of any use.

I was thinking how does one go from straight and level into a spin... But, it could be anything from "cowboy" flying to a structural failure. So would not want to speculate at this stage.

RIP Mark Freedtone, out of Penfiled🙁 Stories are beginning g to build, low hour pilot, new plane (to him) and some rather lowish aggressive stunt/aerobatic flying, that combined with the type was not (if true) a smart combination!🙁

This is possibly a useful item of information to anyone planning to fly a Bristell.

An ATSB investigation report into the crash of a Bristell found that the pilot had performed manoeuvres classified as aerobatics in the moments before the crash.

Just what evidence do you have of such a libellous accusation??? Out of respect for his wife, brother, and the rest of his family and friends I suggest you limit your comments to facts.

There have been references in discussions of this accident to a previous accident involving the same aircraft type - are you sure you're not confused? I haven't seen anything similar about this accident, it seems early to know those sort of details anyway. Have you heard details first hand about this accident - i.e. not just read it on the internet?

Flightrite, a search reveals no-one by the name of Mark Freedtone of Penfield. Did you mean to type Freestone or Freedstone? Have the Police released the pilots name?

It's bad form to name deceased pilots in crashes, before the Police have publicly released the pilots name officially.

Meantimes, the ATSB has stated that they're not investigating, as the aircraft was RA-registered. There can't be too many Bristells on the RA register?
