RFguy Posted September 25 Posted September 25 An Echidna on RWY35 in Canberra just caused a Saab 340 to go-around (from about 1000' AGL) ATC asked them to make a tight circuit . And was told " to slow down in circuit", (230 kts in the first 180 deg turn.... ), as there is 'some difficulty removing the beast'. I had an Echidna in the Hangar on Monday And a Echidna had to get removed from the RWY at Cowra last week. 2 2
Marty_d Posted September 25 Posted September 25 They can put on a turn of speed when they have to. Good spotting to see one trundling across the runway. 1
440032 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 But ASIC cards are required for Canberra airport! How the hell can an un-vetted echidna gain access to the secure airport and display NO ASIC? 7
Marty_d Posted September 25 Posted September 25 He might have been vet-ed at some point in his life. Where there's a quill there's a way... 4
Area-51 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Wombats are prime suspects year on year in AEE's (ASIC evasion event). Its rare for echidna to be involved in an AEE, and are generally not prosecuted due to genetical poor eyesight and nationwide standards regarding social equality and equity for those suffering from hidden disability. 2 1
sfGnome Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I’m staggered that ATC could see it. They aren’t big. I was driving (not flying ☹️) on a fast winding road down on the Monaro (the locality, not the car) and came across an echidna waddling across the road. I pulled over and went back to it, whereupon the idiot marsupial rolled up in a ball right in the middle of the aforementioned thoroughfare. I ended up rolling it gently over to the side with my shoe (thus being missed by a burst of traffic that came through), at which point the animal displayed its supreme intelligence by waddling to a small clump of grass into which it stuck its head. Body completely exposed, but apparently working on the basis that if it couldn’t see me, then I couldn’t see it… 🙄🫣😁 2 2
