Higgins9488 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Hi, I am passionate about aviation and historic aircraft, and have wanted to work in aircraft restoration for as long as I can remember. I was intending to enrol on a course to attain my B1.2 maintenance licence, but after speaking to the course provider I’ve been informed a better route would be for me to get a job in GA to learn hands on, while doing my modules/coursework with the college – with the same end goal being my B1.2 licence. I am a trained welder fabricator with a lot of experience working with sheet metal, as well as keen amateur machinist so am competent working on a lathe, have always maintained/worked on my own vehicles including several nut & bolt motorcycle restorations so know the ins and outs of internal combustion engines and have a good general knowledge of electronics. I'm also passionate about vintage aviation/aviation in general, a very hard worker and eager to learn. Does anybody know of the best route for me to find employment to help me move forward? I'm located in Birmingham at the moment but am willing to move for work. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Josh.
skippydiesel Posted October 15 Posted October 15 Hi Josh, I am sorry that you have not received any responses from this Forum. This may be due to it having a primarily Australasian membership - Birmingham being a tad outside our usual flight planning. I hope I am correct in my observation that the aircraft maintenance world is a fairly small one - job adverts in general press, likly rare. You may be best to take the initiative/be proactive and start contacting aircraft maintenance facilities in the UK - initially just asking for a meeting/look round their facility/operation. Once you have made contact, you will start to get a feel for hiring prospects, may be even referrals to other potential employers. Good luck 😈
facthunter Posted October 16 Posted October 16 See if you can get time with a restorer or manufacturer. Don't expect much money. Being around the stuff will be your reward. Nev
johnm Posted October 16 Posted October 16 what about ferreting around aviation museums ........... even volunteering the old hands there (where ever there is) should be able to point you in the right direction ? ........................ probably an obvious suggestion https://visitbirmingham.com/listing/midland-air-museum/137221101/ 1
