I bought tefzel wire recently from a performance vehicle supplier (Performance Motorsports) on eBay. Cheaper, but no guarantee that suppliers there will have the size/colour/length that you want.

and no guarentee it is even what it is claimed......and I am guessing that it didnt come with release paperwork either...

Important if you are building/maintaining a certified aircraft - otherwise just more costly fire lighting material.

 

I have purchased "stuff" from automotive performance supplier, at a much lower price, than an identical looking product, from an aviation supplier (with documentation) at higher cost.

Lyndon, also consider my viewpoint with my answers- I'm involved in GA maintenance...... but I also have a RA plane also, so I see both ends of arguments.  what are you building?
EDMO isnt expensive. you are not putting in 100km of wire....  doesnt really matter if you buy 20 different wires in 10 foot lengths of 100 foot lengths - all same price. Some coloured stuff is 50' minimum.  I'd recommend using coloured stuff where you can for avionics, it will be much easier on your brain. Or, invest in a effective cable labelling tool (or labeller with those laminated print roll up wire sleeves.....)

Just don't get too peeved when you see an identical fitting at,say, 1/2 the price from an automotive supplier. The example I gave of AN fuel line fittings is something you can inspect yourself - unless certified aircraft, why pay for a piece of paper that in no way improves the quality of the product, its efficiency, durability or safety in use.

 

Other "things" may have standards that you can research eg oil /coolant/fuel hose - I guess if you feel it's necessary to go the extra certified aviation paper mile you will do so and if it somehow makes you feel more confidence in your work - great!😈

I bought tefzel from an Australian supplier and it was crap. So then I just grinned and beared the cost of getting it from aircraft spruce in the US. Now that I don't need any I see aircraft spruce have an Australian branch 😄

Sure you can buy from Spruce if you like, but you'll pay more per foot....

 

Shame on anyone who doesnt buy from AUstralian suppliers when there is no good reason except lazyness.

Some different colours, just need to decide on lengths. From what I see it's very cheap in the US, will it sent to KitFox and they can stick in the crate.

yeah, they may buy in very large quantity, so they might have a price advantage.

Otherwise, there is no price advantage buying wire from the US compared to local EDMO. colors are usually small 50' rolls.  everything else is by the foot. 

 

What you need behind the instrument panel will depend on what instrument connectors you have, like high density versus standard density D connectors (3 versus 2 row etc) .

 

excess copper is weight.  Be sure to be fully across AC43.13 for requirements of wire size  (single and in bundles ) for circuit breaker sizes...

Shipping small items from the U.S. has never been costlier. USPS has raised its postal rates to astronomical levels over the last 10-15 years, which makes it prohibitive to ship small items from the U.S., individually.

Air freight companies are still rorting us, to make up for pandemic losses. The best you can do is to keep looking for companies doing free shipping within the continental U.S., and arrange to agglomerate your purchases into one shipment using a trans-shipping agency such as Planet Express. Trans-shippers will combine your packages into one lot for international shipping, and thus lower your shipping costs overall.

 

If you can find the item you seek here in Australia, you will often find it's just as economic to buy it here. There are occasional examples of local price-gouging, though, you just have to avoid them.

The good reason for me is that I went through a recommended Australian supplier, and some of the wire was corroded, some had verdi gris. They tried to convince me that was normal, but I got some from the US and lo and behold, it looked clean and new. I agree it's nice to support local, but my experience is that Americans tend to give better service because there is so much more competition.

Ok. Stein in the US at the current exchange rate. 57 cents per foot.

Local here in Adelaide at EDMO is 54 cents per foot. That's 🍎 for 🍎 

That's at their door pricing. 

No brainer, I will get all I need at EDMO.
