Your ability and level of skills as a pilot, is directly related to how rapidly you can speak in acronyms. Rattle off a pile of aviation acronyms during discussion, and watch just how awed your audience will be!  😄

Well I'm definitely not going to get the audience excited...

 

Now onto something different. I'm going to need a flight computer, if not to navigate certainly to pass the written test. I spotted the CX-3 and got excited but a friend told me 'No electronic aids during the test'. So back to the EB6. Are all brands equal? Is there good and bad or best?

It's a long time since my PPL & RAA conversion when no electronic navigation devices (ED)were permitted (weren't available for small aircraft). I hear (on this Forum) that  all sorts of electronic devices are permitted  by SOME training establishments. 

 

I think the question is , does RAA permit ED's during exams/flight tests???😈

CASA clearly state 'No electronic devices are to be used for Pilot test in Australia'.

 

No, you cannot use a CX-3 flight computer in your RAAus pilot test as it is not approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for use in Australian aviation exams, including RAAus pilot tests; meaning you will not be allowed to use it during your test.

The real old types are ICAN and the Later ones ICAO. I ALWAYS carried a WHITE plastic one that would fit in my shirt pocket. You use it to work out and check all sorts of things.   Nev

The older nickel plated ICAN brass ones came out long before I was flying. Most instructors were ex military AP 1732 A manual and we all did the same thing without much questioning. We called the Plastic one the Prayer wheel. I'd still have the OLD Brass one somewhere. Nev

This morning I put it into action. I think I have enough for 2 x 8" pipes side by side for about 30m on each drain across the airstrip.

How wide do I need an airstrip?

1200 metres

The runway length should be not less than 1200 metres. 25 metre turning node at each end of the runway (Figures 1 and 2). The preferred runway width is 20 metres. The maximum allowable longitudinal slope between runway ends is 2%.

a bloke here has a 600 mt runway and flies a 172 off it. no trees or obstacles at either end helps .

3km x 60 mt if needs to bring an a380 in to carry his gold out.

I can only fit 500m in length between two dirt roads/tracks. and that boundary of my lease is only just over 500m anyway. It's all gold prospecting leases anyway so no infrastructure nearby. The closest is my shed about 100m to the southern side. 

 

If we dig the gold that is meant to be down there I'll surely improve the amenities. Drilling shows many thousands of ounces down there but I keep reminding my self I'm retired. I should be processing the dirt under the strip. If anybody wants to dig big holes let me know. We have gold but most of it is beyond my reach.

That will work, 500m, good to have releases in the fences so if you clip them with wheels the wire will let go easily and weak posts that will fold over.  Also can have side bits at each end so you can do a rolling start when ever needed (start at right angles onto end of runway so rolling when enter and rolling line up and away, not starting from fully stopped at the end.)
