SAAA membership is $280 (245 for concession holders)

Owner maintenance course to do owner maintenance is $550.

Just to add info.

Turbo gave the membership cost for the sporting shooters association.😁. Handy to know I suppose

Turbo is convinced we have it but won't elaborate

I would be in it immediately.   SAAA expensive and not into flying, and I don't want to pay for belonging,  what even would RAA provide me with? Part 103 would be for me, to me it looks like SAAA and RAA are just beauratic organisations,  somewhat similar to other government beaurocracies ( spelling?).  I have heard a lot about flying without them, as was happening when I was getting into flying in the 70's.  In the 80's we have a lot of flying laws that were stupid, many.people ignored these and good laws and the consequences were that we had a higher GA accident rate than America. I think all these beaurocratic organisations may send us in the same direction.

Talk to RAA.

This is a very serious thread about a threat to RAA Members based on incorrect information.

Ok. I agree this thread should get back on topic. How about we start another thread and you tell us about this part 103 equivalent you keep talking about.

But MPC Course is a once off. And you don't need to be an SAAA member to build & fly an experimental aircraft. Although we found membership invaluable during the build, test flying phases.

I found kit useless during the building phase and resigned.

You mean no legal flying

Posted

No .

can do legal flying ! .

As  a  trainee pilot . 30 something hours in my Logbook. ( foxbat-24-5356 )

But my Hummel-Bird is a different kettle of fish ! .

Short coupled ( 14 ' ( 4.26 mtrs) ) . And untested .

I should have bought a crashed bird from WA.

OR . the one from South Grafton.  Both " grandfathered  " .

Or as I was told , LIE  .  to get that grandfather clause .

I was looking  for a comparison to see if subscription costs were getting out of hand but both organisations have splits for classes, endorsements, children etc. Both have had increases over 2010 era for Public Liability policy, and so on. All up it looked like RAA and SSAA were facing roughly the same increases - sports are getting mor expensive., so not much to do with trhis subject.

Transfer to VH Experimental ,then join SAAA .

BUT

WOULD it give me experience on type. ( Hummel-Bird ) ..

The SAAA does a lot for the active builders, justifying the high? fees. but the discount to those not needing of that service is a Piddling amount  so they are subsiding the others. That and leadership instability is the reason I left but that's a long time ago now.

This one "sat' when I fed the dogs but here it is a bit late

Spacey's Hummel bird gets a lot of action even if it doesn't  fly..Nev

I'm afraid Part 103 equivalence  wouldn't help you anyway Space Sailor, the hummelbird isnt Part 103 compliant, the ultracruiser is the part 103 version
