onetrack Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The announcement by Australian drone mapping company Aerologix that they are integrating with the SOAR digital mapping platform, is going to mean our mapping is going to rapidly become so comprehensive, it will blow your mind. The integration of mapping by thousands of drone operators, with aerial imaging, satellite imagery, and current maps is going to be revolutionary, and on a par with the invention of the mobile phone. Maps and imagery will all become integrated and easily searchable, and will provide all the information you need on an integrated platform, that will likely also include up to date weather and pilot information at your fingertips. Drones truly are the 21st century device that will feature much more in our information search requirements, from now on. I just trust the system stays affordable for low-end users. BurnieM Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) A lot of this is already available for free and more if you are prepared to pay. Really not something new. Detailed , high zoom level, current aerial photos of all of Australia would be great but I do not see it happening. Everybody wants 10 times the bucks they spent producing these images. I do not see many uploading their data to Soar not after the politics that occurred with MapsMe. Edited January 6 by BurnieM 2

onetrack Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 That's great for corporate clients, but a bit outside the budget for people flying recreationally. I would think that Soar is going to make access to imagery and mapping a bit more affordable for the average Joe. I was quite surprised to see how just much historical mapping was freely available in Soar, they've done a lot of scanning of old maps and documents. The integration of so many sources of maps and imagery and information, is what intrigued me. Soar | The New Atlas SOAR.EARTH Explore view and share maps and imagery of the Earth. 1 1

Just ran Soar; in the area of southern Australia I looked at they were running Google Earth 2025 maps, so not razor sharp images like Near Map - they fudge them to avoid perverts etc. I got onto a live satellite feed at one stage; blurry down low but you were seeing actual current activity. Some people reported on FB their dog had run away from their remote beach camping site, they were leaving that day for Victoria and would have to abandon the dog. I looked along the beach, found their Landcruiser and campsite and told them if they drove half a km north there was a track off the beach, go half Km, turn right, go half km and there was a farm. Ask at farm. An hour later they posted that they's found their dog at the farm. Tried to use it a year later, had forgotten the site address. 1
