"We encourage all members to take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy the savings on Avgas and Jet A1 fuel. Thank you for being a valued member of RAAus, and we look forward to bringing you more exciting benefits in the future."

Hmmmm!

I wonder how many RAA Jet A1 users are enjoying this wonderfully generous offer.

As a dedicated ULP user the other New Year gift of AvGas is also pretty suss.

Is this one of those politically inspired demonstrations of largess, with a zero cost/benefit to the proletariat?😈

Maybe some RA-AUS members still own a kerosene heater that they drag out in winter

Skippy they are just buttering you up before the next inevitable fee hike. Looking at the financial reports for "the company" last year had record revenue, and a operating deficit. Legal cost took a very big jump with probably more to come.

They will NEVER be able to reliably predict their legal costs. CASA should Indemnify them. RAAus should never have been exposed as they are. It's not a satisfactory or reasonable  arrangement.  Nev

You must have you missed the hundreds of discussions on the reason CASA wouldn't even think of indemnifying them.

The reason RAA and every other high risk sporting activity has to pay its own way followed ALL governments, State, Territory, Commonwealth moving in bipartisan unison to off load the growing legal costs from liability directly onto the people who were engaged and caused the costs.

Before the change to Company status one of the board members told us they were just one case away from bankruptcy, then the accident cases dropped off and they could breathe again. Claims fluctute a lot more than the accidents themselves so it must be very hard to budget for.

The current round of legal problems could see serious problems for RAAus hierarchy financially, as a result of possible impending

legal costs,  in an ongoing case.

there are 2 ongoing cases that are be going to be trouble ,   especially the latest one if it falls against raaus.  i actually feel for them over the latest one , if someone decides to fly in weather against other more experienced pilots advice the buck should stop with them.

Problem is……people won’t take responsibility, I don’t know if the past incorporated structure would have potentially different outcome for RAA?
Welcome to our modern World, just sue the arse off everyone, even IF the suing person is wrong?
Trouble is, I would allege  information was withheld from Coroner, as reported by ABC?  We don’t know if that was true or not, either?

One thing I learnt years ago, right or wrong stay of a Court room, because either way it will COST you money, regardless…….

As we've learned on this site time and time again from real cases, the buck stops with the person/organization which had the duty of care, and breached that duty of care.

They knew back in 1932 in the first lawsuit that a woman drinking from a bottle of ginger beer wasn't responsible to see through the opaque bottle that a snail had been accidentally left in the bottle during cleaning.

Wow! "Thread drift" usually takes some sort of associated path , however random, from the original topic but this is more like a "Hijack"!😈

If you were to title your thread RAA Fuel offers that might be true.

Sales of Avgas are declining world wide & IOR want to sell as much as possible to try and recoup the costs of establishing self contained Avgas facilities at aerodromes. Rotax  and Jabiru are the most popular engines in recreational aircraft & very few now use Avgas. Jabiru have always recommended Avgas in their manuals (I think for litigation defence purposes) but advise anything 95RON & above is OK & they will advise you verbally to use 95 or 98.  2 strokes don't use Avgas either. IOR proposed a facility at our aerodrome but we weren't prepared to pay for it. World Fuel, a US based consortium has done the same & after much wrangling with local authorities looks like it may go ahead at no cost to us.

Personally i can't see them making much out of it as modern engines don't require 100LL. We have a petrol station just around the corner & most people use 98 or 95 RON automotive petrol except anyone using old lycoming & continental engines.

Continuing the thread drift......

I agree with you on the pilots responsibility for taking off in the first place, but the trouble for RAAus in this one is they knew the training wasn't adequate and he shouldn't have been issued a XC endorsement.

Instead they sat on their hands and then tried to hide the evidence from the coroner.

A highly resepcted, long serving employee of RAAus "retired" very quickly after this came to light.

On Topic....

If RAAus want to give better value to members, they would support the installation of Mogas at airfields.

Most RAAus aircraft will run very happily on 98 Mogas, and most Lycomings will too.

I guess my observation, alludes to generosity with little substance (as in a political offer that fails to be implemented).

IF this offer took any RAA time at all, to negotiate, I would also suggest that our Administration might use our time/money to much better effect. 😈
