Odd Radio problem

A friends aircraft fitted with new Icom IC200 and panel intercom (same model as Jabiru). After fitting new radio- on the ground - everything working well.  During first flight no transmissions received by accompanying aircraft.  BUT transmission ptt button press can be heard. Just no speech.   Ground testing finds that the ptt button press cuts out mike ! ( pilot and pass same) RX works fine , intercom works fine. Just ptt button is somehow cutting out TX ( Radio IS transmitting, just no sound via mike ) Headset tested OK. Pressing TX button shows tx icon on radio on radio screen. Anyone know where I might look?

soundslike PTT is wired across the mic, and not the separate PTT input... (or both)  

 

***somewhere in the wiring perhaps there is a short between mic and PTT. measure it on the back of the sockets with an ohmmeter....
