The pitch will adjust to keep the RPM constant.. In a dive as the speed increases the pitch will become coarser. In a climb as the speed reduces the pitch will fine off. In a BING type carburettor, the throttle controls the butterfly valve (see diagram above) . The prop is only trying to resist your ommand. The Bing is no different to any other carburetor other than having a variable venturi instead of a fixed one. It is diffrent in action hence my question The throttle plate (butterfly) controls the air volume and the piston moves to vary to venturi to add the correct amount of fuel. This statement contradicts those above and is essentially correct. A fixed carburetor has a number of passages and jets (air bleed, emulsion tube, enrichment etc) to do what the piston does in the Bing. The Bing diaphragm carburettor, is nothing like the carburettors used by Ly/Con - hense my inquiry. BING: The movement of the diaphragm is controlled by manifold pressure (MAP) The diaphragm (working on the needle valve) controls fuel flow MAP is controlled by the throttle/butterfly valve connection (no mechanical connection to the diaphragm) AND the propeller, acting as a governor. My question is about the ability or not of the propeller to determined/control fuel flow in a BING type carburettor. By using wide open throttle (WOT) rather than another setting, I am attempting to remove the variable introduced by the butterfly valve.😈
facthunter Posted February 14 Posted February 14 The position of the diaphragm is controlled by the throttle position AND the engines ability to pump air.( LESS at high altitudes) IF you load the engine and thereby reduce the revs it will be very limited in the POWER it can produce. Look at any Torque, RPM and HP chart produced on a dynamometer. There will be a MAX torque RPM and well above it a max SHP RPM as well as a never exceed RPM. Nev

The piston is moving up against gravity and the spring pressure through the differential pressure across the venturi caused by the piston, totally independent of the MAP. It is influenced by the air flow which is controlled by the butterfly.
facthunter Posted February 15 Posted February 15 It really does the same thing a different way See the slide as a variable venturi that rises as the depression ( suction) increases slightly. The needle acts as the fuel flow adjuster for the bigger aperture... The delay in the dashpot responding acts as an accelerator Pump. Have you found the small passages that get the depressed force to the top go the diaphragm and the IDLE passages for the initial fuel provision.. Missing is the idle speed adjustment stop. . and the choke mechanism. Nev
