facthunter Posted yesterday at 12:44 AM Posted yesterday at 12:44 AM Offset of the bores doesn't stop piston clatter Only offset gudgeon pins do Then there a force greater on one side to tilt the Piston. The "W' slot piston causes the crown to run much hotter than it otherwise would. risking detonation.. Nev 1
Red Posted yesterday at 08:12 AM Posted yesterday at 08:12 AM As usual In your haste to explain basic principle You are avoiding the point, Jabiru have the offset towards the opposite side of the piston than that which convention states. Which might explain why this Jab has them rotated 180 degrees in the bore in hope of correcting this. None of this is connected to the problem in hand though, which is likely in large part due to the increased oil jet that the OP has found 1
MarcoP Posted yesterday at 08:20 AM Author Posted yesterday at 08:20 AM (edited) I'm not capable to follow your discussion anymore: it's too technic for me. I would like to stick with Jab's manual as more as i can, that's my personal point of view on something i barely chew as: "mechanics topic". 11 minutes ago, Red said: None of this is connected to the problem in hand though Yes and No, there is a connection, in my eyes, and it is the following: the airplane factory was used to make a lot of un-authorised customisation to the engine at install time (oil jet and pistons are just a couple as example, we found many more) and God only knows how many more they did which we haven't found yet. This tendency has been confermed by more Fly Synthesis owners and by another (ex) Jabiru authorised mechanic (who was the main one here in the past 10 years). Long story short: do you have a Fly Synthesis plane powered by a Jabiru and you are experiencing strange issues? don't expect the engine is installed in the way it has been written in the manual. Trust nothing, double check everything, even the most basic and unbelivable things. Edited yesterday at 08:24 AM by MarcoP 1 1
