skippydiesel Posted Tuesday at 01:38 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:38 AM The commentator does a terrific job of analysing this incident, with commendable empathy for the pilot & passengers.😈 1 2
facthunter Posted Wednesday at 11:29 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:29 PM Many pilots with only the minimum training you get these days wouldn't understand the details of what he is saying all of which is correct. When a plane has ICE on it the stalled speed can be way above what it is normally and drag , control, weight and visibility are affected as well.. Jet aircraft use engine heat (Bleed air) so can deice well but can't climb as fast and range as far with icing on. At cruise levels with Cirrus clouds there is no icing issues except fuel ice relating to fuel temps.. Nev 1 2
Thruster88 Posted Wednesday at 11:50 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:50 PM If only we could travel back in time and have Matt Farell watch this vid. As the pilot said, one minute everything is good then it all turns to shite. 1 1
facthunter Posted Thursday at 03:28 AM Posted Thursday at 03:28 AM AND Pilots are NOT trained for it so Who's to blame? The Point IS, they once were, (in GA) THEN you have a fighting chance. Nev 1 1
onetrack Posted Thursday at 06:31 AM Posted Thursday at 06:31 AM Quote If only we could travel back in time and have Matt Farell watch this vid But do you honestly think watching that video would have dissuaded Matt Farrell from taking off in his Jabiru that fateful morning? By all reports, he was the personality type who would've watched the video, and said, "I'm too smart, for that to happen to me! - only idiots crash aircraft!" - and he still would've taken off. 1
facthunter Posted Thursday at 07:28 AM Posted Thursday at 07:28 AM (edited) I can't see the Point of continuing to comment on this in a speculative way. I started to and pulled myself up. HE made the choice. HE was a risk taker. What happened would have happened regardless of all the training he could reasonably have been given.. Plenty of our peers think THAT would NEVER happen to ME.. HUMAN Factors? THAT's a Help but not a Guarantee. "Think Aeroplane" I've said THAT a few times to students.
