facthunter Posted March 15 Posted March 15 To listen to High revs like that would frankly tire me out It's OK in a Paramotor as you are too busy to notice the Noise. Its only Power to weight you need not Power per CC.. Some VEE Twin horizontal shaft Industrial motors come close to being suitable. Nev
Litespeed Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) I agree a nice little v twin and redrive would sound far better. As a Moto Guzzi and BMW fan , they just sound- right. A $5k budget would easily do a nice vtwin and Ace redrive with lots of quality mods for aero use. Thats full electric start, better carb including heat, digital ignition upgrades etc. not a bolt and play but not a huge challenge either. And would be much easier to nicely cowl in for a Sapphire or Saddler Vampire etc. should certainly be lower drag than a two smoke version. Huge amount of threads about them in Homebuiltairplanes site. Edited March 15 by Litespeed 1
facthunter Posted March 15 Posted March 15 YES. I keep looking from time to time.. V twins have Piston momentum advantages over other configurations. nev

They are all very heavy compared to a Rotax 912. 5k will get a good used 912 and it is ready to go and proven. 1

Most are modeled on aerobatic aircraft like Extras, and they're great to watch because they fly like a normal aircraft and when they are doing aerobatics it's a lot more realistic There's a field with a 1,000 foot licence in the D314 (Danger) zone in the Carrum entrance point to Moorabbin Airporr from the Moorabbin training area, so if you're coming in from the east, best not to stray too far north for the entry. They get the performance from not carrying a human whereas the RAA aircraft are 300 kg MTOW (335 with floats, 320 with BRS) and wing loading 30 kg/M2. 1
