I don't understand your 4th symptom. The US has very poor healthcare, in fact virtually none with a totally inadequate safety net for the poor. It is user pays or have health insurance at exhorbitant cost that only the wealthy can afford.

Sorry! worded badly  My position is simply - A country that invests in the education & health of its citizens, is investing in its future.  The USA is the opposite of this.

For about 20 years now, I have expected the United States to disunite. It has been been subject to huge social pressures for quite some time. The rise of Trumpism may just be the last straw😈

Yea I was also confused, then noticed Skippy's statement following those points...

"The last three are demonstrably in the best interests of the nation as a whole, being an investment in the populations current & future well-being and competitiveness."

.

.... agree completely  with Skippy's thoughts on how despotes can get into power,  it takes a very messed up population to actually believe in and vote for such a blatantly sick individual as Trump.

His Neice Mary Trump, gave them plenty of warning but it's a population which readily accepts Cults and apparent winners and has long standing deep seated issues like a Gun Epidemic, racism. American Superiority in all things and the status of Women., to name a few. Nev

I struggle to understand the reason this thread has not been stopped by the mods. I recall some long while ago that my thoughts on the US political failures were very roughly curtailed by ad hominem attacks and worse. It must be apparent that the US nation has been responsible for catastrophe followed by worse at least since they took on the Vietnam boondogle but ,really since Korea and all that. it is NOT JUST TRUMP. We have  taken on F35s that can't turn. can't... etc and now are involved in the steal of the century , purchasing Submarines that we will never control let alone actually need. It's about time that we grew a pair as a nation. Sorry for that rant, I guess that I will now be banned for muy trouble. Don

Thanks Jerry. I'm aware of this thread. I don't wish to add my voice to a well deserved dissing of Trump. My view is that the US has been rogue for 80 years or so. I rejected the Oz invitation to fight in Vietnam and have seen Oz tail wagged by dog as extremely disappointing. In a perfect (or even a slightly better) world, we could be better off with an independent foreign policy. Just my view. Cheers and no judgement implied to my fellow forumites. Don

It's become obvious to a Lot of Knowledgeable Oz People that the Current White House or CIA/FBI cannot be TRUSTED by Us. Nev

Looks like TDS is alive and well in this country too

In my opinion TDS is a rather childish put down term directed towards people rightly concerned that a nutcase has been given perhaps the most powerfull position in the world.

The term is almost always used by those who agree with some of Trump's behaviour.

Perhaps you could elaborate  on your position in more detail than simply throwing out the TDS insult?

I would consider WE are not immune from it but WE are NOT America and the "Imitators" haven't gotten far. Like the same people tried with the TEA Party.  Copiers are NOT "Thinkers". Nev

I had never heard of TDS until now... When I saw what the acronym stood for, my immediate reaction was it meant those who are blindly supporting him no matter what he does. Of course, not.

It is yet another pejorative term nutcases come up with when they can't rationally defend their positions, and is usually a reflection of themselves rather than the people the try to denigrate.

Here is something interesting:

And, yes, Wikipedia isn't always accurate, but I thought this was an interesting quote:

"Despite the usage of the term syndrome suggesting a medical condition, TDS is not an official medical diagnosis.[7] A 2021 research study found no evidence to support the existence of TDS among Trump detractors on the left, but instead found bias among his supporters.[8] A bill seeking to classify TDS as a mental illness was introduced in the Minnesota Senate by Republicans in March 2025. However, it is currently not recognized as a mental illness in any U.S. state. "

(my bold).

I guess the next allegation was the research was conducted by myopic left loonies, as if the MAGA maniacs are all critical thinking logical and objective.

For the record, I don't in principle disagree with many of his policies; it is the execution of them and the ulterior motives or "unintended" consequences I have a problem with.

Ah! but what of the rest of the (sort of) sane World????😈

It is certain that the US is headed for traumatic events dictated largely by past actions of delusional politicians. These include the pushing of NATO membership onto minor eastern European states (always towards Russia's borders).

Gorbachev and Reagan had agreed "not one inch further to the east" in 1991. Unfortunately modern impasses were set in past mistakes and here we are (with the orange looney.

Yes indeed. Biden's time was a debacle and we have been saved from a disastrous Harris. I lived in the USA for several years and wanted to stay longer - if I had been there as a younger man I probably would've stayed the rest of my life. The UK is off my list of countries to visit again, Australia has been heading down the same dangerous path.

I'm off to enjoy my American airplanes, my American car and to visit Oshkosh this year.

I'll leave you all to it.

You don't see e.g. removing the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, women pilots etc. from government websites as a symptom of a problem? Whatever your opinions of previous governments, this one is in a totally different category.

I agree they were as bad as every USA administration I can remember.

Thanks for illustrating Skippy's point on how we got to this awfull situation.

Yeah. Everything's the SAME. Who are you trying to fool?   None have EVER got CLOSE  TO The "Current  Mafia COUP" Leaders where LAWS don't mean anything anymore. This is NOT a DRESS Rehearsal. People don't have "rights" unless Trump says so. Don't crash into a TESLA or you might not be seen again.. You'd get less time if you shot someone. It's a VERY divided Country .  Nev
