So the plane I have just bought has no electrical systems at all and I have been looking at internal battery powered ADSB in/out options.

Seems to be a few options including Foreflight, Uavionix, Appareo, Garmin etc.

Anyone using something like this and have any feedback they would like to share?

Thanks in advance

T510, Congrats on the Cub!   As you've probably worked out, self-contained solutions involve an approved portable ADSB IN/OUT device (like a Uavionix  SkyEcho2) used with a tablet (iOS or Android) used with an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) app such as OzRunways and AvPlan.  You could poke around on this site, searching for "SkyEcho2"  or "SE2"  and you'll be deluged with passionate chat about all of the above, but maybe as an intro to the subject you could look at these sites (you can also look for YouTube tutorials):

Recent events have sparked a debate about the usefulness and capabilities of EFBs and traffic displays. At AvPlan EFB we […]

Hi T510,

As Garfly says, there are a few options available to you.

I use a Skyecho2 and display the ADSB-IN from that on an iPad Mini 7 using AVPlan. I've been using this combo for several years with no problems.

Obviously with no electrical system you would need to ensure both are adequately charged up before embarking on a cross country flight.

Where in Victoria are you based?

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks, I will continue to read up on the various options.

Unfortunately at this stage it isn't a Cub, that is what I learnt to fly in and is definitely the end goal though.

Thanks Neil,

I find talking to people who are actually using them is a big help rather than relying on online reviews.

I'm based in Gippsland.

My wild guess would be that maybe half of all VFR aircraft flying around these days are using some kind of ADSB-out device.

Just judging on the number of aircraft one now gets to hear AND see. (And all IFR flights must have it.)

Even more would be making use of some kind of IN-only solution.

The government subsidy plus low cost gear plus increasing acceptance all seem to be working.

So when you're ready to formulate questions I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers here..

Congrats on your new aeroplane.

SkyEcho2 (white box in top right corner) + Ipad mini cellular + AvPlan works for me.

I installed a uAvionices tailbeaconX ADSB transponder to the RV with the gov rebate. Have a SkyEcho2 for the IN bit and use in the other aircraft IN and OUT. ADSB transponder + SkyEcho2 is a great system as it allows constant monitoring as you fly that both units are working correctly.
