Thruster88 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) I see jabiru are releasing the 432 twin jab with 2x 2200 80 hp engines. Engine cowlings are now somewhat easier on the eye than previous examples. Specifications are on the Jabiru Australian site, cruise speed is only marginally better than a single 230 at 125knot TAS and fuel burn is much higher. Single engine performance is not mentioned? With fixed propellers and under carriage I don't see this as a viable twin trainer even with VH registration. What is the market? Put that same 160hp but in one engine, a turbocharged Rotax 916, in that excellent airframe and then you would really have something that people would buy rather than maybe a Sling tsi. An expensive premium model. The drag from having two lumps out there compared to one engine in the nose will not fly in the market place as I see it. What say you all? facthunter Posted March 21 Posted March 21 It was for a particular use In Africa. "Synching' the Engines will drive you nuts and It won't fly on ONE without feathering. 1

Much cheaper, aftermarket EFII is available, critical altitude of FL160 and did I say cheaper than a 916? EDIT: Just saw the same MTOW of 760, so only 280kg payload. facthunter Posted March 23 Posted March 23 The MORE engines the more chance of having one fail, IF it wont fly on ONE, what use is it? Take a look at what the Plane IS with one engine stopped But NOT feathered It's VERY Assymetric. (Hard to control) and the best you could achieve is an extended Glide for all your good work. On top of that you have the annoying out of SYNCH Inevitable without CS Props in normal flight. Constant fiddling with the throttles. Nev 1 2
