red750 Posted Saturday at 07:30 AM Posted Saturday at 07:30 AM A man is recovering in hospital after a light plane overturned after landing in grassland on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula. Police were called just before 12pm following reports a vintage plane had flipped onto its roof after landing at Tyabb Airport. The pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft managed to climb out of the plane without help. 1
onetrack Posted Saturday at 07:45 AM Posted Saturday at 07:45 AM A rare Ryan STM-2, powered by a Menasco engine. It flipped in 1967, too, when the collets holding the inlet valves stripped, resulting in an EFATO. https://www.aerialvisuals.ca/AirframeDossier.php?Serial=18747 1 2
Litespeed Posted Saturday at 09:21 AM Posted Saturday at 09:21 AM VH-AWG...shit. Bugger I hope pilot is Ok. Beautiful aircraft, too special to not repair. They actually build replica ones for LSA in the states. 1
facthunter Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Nice looking plane . I nearly Bought VH AHD when I was at Marshalls at Bankstown, Ex Stan Hone CFI at RNAC. Getting upside down with those is risky There's usually a Pylon in front of the forward cockpit to hold the Plane off the ground. I can't see it there. A friend of Mine currently has one at Bendigo. Most went back to the STATES years ago. Aerobatic with a Supercharged Menasco Pirate engine with open valve gear, 150 HP. Delicate U/C structure easily deformed. Under all that "tin". Nev 2
