facthunter Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Doesn't look like what it used to be. . HARS would be a better way to spend time viewing. Nice People, all volunteers, good sit down food, under cover civilised unrushed and educational (guided) even if you are not a MAD aeroplane NUT. They have a website. (I'm not connected other than I did my first time at the controls there (Shellharbour) when I was 18. (67 years ago). Nev 2 1
BrendAn Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Listening to 3aw there were a lot of unhappy visitors. 1 lady said they paid $65 online for premium parking and when they finally got there everyone was parking there because there were no parking attendants checking tickets.
facthunter Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Thats the sort of $#!t 3AW thrives on but ... disappointing and people will vote with their feet.. Nev
BrendAn Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Just now, facthunter said: Thats the sort of $#!t 3AW thrives on but ... disappointing and people will vote with their feet.. Nev They are normal people ringing in. And dozens on Facebook saying it was the worst Avalon they have ever attended. Nothing wrong with 3aw. No worse than any other station. I listen because music gets on my Nerves after about 15 minutes.😁 In WA I only listened to the Australian bullshit channel. Only choice out the bush.
facthunter Posted March 31 Posted March 31 THEY (3AW)select/encourage the Audience and love to stir about anything they can dig up. Too negative for me . I have no doubt that this one will rate as the worst. . Airshows are not attended by a big section of the Community either. Nev 1
red750 Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I was looking through some of my 1204 photos on airport-data.com and came across this photo I took at Laverton Air Show in Match 2012. 1 1
jackc Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Big air shows will probably go the way of the dodo, like big music festivals seem to be doing
facthunter Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Notably a BIG piston Transport. Rare at that stage of the Game.. Nev
onetrack Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Peter, are you sure that was 2012?? Looks more like 1962 to me!! That's an AL-series International truck behind the aircraft, the last AL-series was built in early 1956! Military Air Transport Service (MATS) was redesignated the Military Airlift Command (MAC) on 1 January 1966, so I would fully expect that photograph is early 1960's. The last C-124 Globemaster was built in 1956, and when MAC was formed, the few remaining Globemasters were taken over by MAC, as the C-141 Starlifter (which was designed to replace the Globemaster) was already in service (from 1963), and by 1970, all the remaining Globemasters were "retired" to the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard - and the Globemaster was taken out of service completely, in 1974. onetrack Posted April 6 Posted April 6 From Wikipedia - "52-0994 – C-124C is on static display at the McChord Air Museum at McChord Field in Lakewood, Washington. This aircraft was formerly under civilian registration N86599, and located for many years at the Detroit Institute of Aeronautics. On 9 October 1986, the aircraft was flown nonstop from Selfridge Air National Guard Base near Detroit to McChord Field. While flying over Washington, the aircraft was joined by a Lockheed C-130 Hercules and Lockheed C-141 Starlifter of McChord's 62nd Military Airlift Wing. This is the last recorded flight of a C-124."
red750 Posted April 6 Posted April 6 You're right of course. I fell for the old 3-card trick. I looked at the shot time in the meta data. Didn't notice the device name was HP Scanjet dj_d02c. The 2012 date was when I scanned the b&w photo. No idea when it was taken. 1 1
