Just starting out, I am amazed at just how many different types are available. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a good list of what exists. So I started one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RA-Aus_Certified_Aircraft_Types

So help out and list your aircraft or others you know. Many hands make light work! Feel free to change the layout of the page, the type of information displayed, etc. There are probably many of you out there than can better decide how to categorize types and what info is important to list in the main page. But do try to keep it sorted alphabetically first on manufacturer, then type.

The RA-Aus Wikipedia page itself can do with some more information too and can be a place to start other pages from. (like RA-Aus schools, flying clubs, airfields/strips/paddocks you are welcome to drop into for a cuppa, etc...)

Since starting I have found most information quite hard to find, with much of it in different places. Wikipedia provides a perfect place to get as much as possible in one location.

Why bother with Wikipedia? Surely the information could be built into this website? Why try to build another site when we already have one. To my knowledge, none of the specialist aviation sites built on the major centres like AOL,yahoo, msn, google.... have been successful. Just look at how well the private site www.vansaircraft.com has become the major RV location.

There are quite lengthy listings already in print in the US 'Kitplanes'...for one. I think I've seen others too.

happy days,

It could be, but it is not - and only one person maintains this website. The beauty of Wikipedia is that anyone can edit it and keep it up to date. I guess Ian could install a Wiki here too, which would be great. But while that isn't there, Wikipedia is a good place. And if Ian does decide to make this site a wiki, then we can just copy the data here.

That is just the website of one manufacturer, not a community website or anything. It doesn't even seem to have forums for owners! (unless they hide them very well)

So you either have to buy that regularly (if your local news agent stocks it) to keep up to date or buy a paid subscription to see it on their website. Not very useful to me.

I still think a Wiki is the best way forward and having this information on Wikipedia will give it a much wider audience and easier to find for anyone, especially those just (wanting to) starting out. Which would be great for RA-Aus in general.
