Guest J430 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Anyone know if this applies to RAA, GFA etc etc...... Seems the PPL level will be tested, and I know most here in Oz will be fine, however will this be required by RAA and others who are not in the PPL or similar loop? We all share CTAF's together! J:wave:
Guest airsick Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I am not sure if ti will apply to RAA (maybe with the CTA endorsement?) but it is easy. Your CFI, if he is an approved testing officer, just signs you off. No formal test is required. If your CFI can't sign you off I believe, but could be wrong, the test can be done over the phone and takes around 20 min or so.
Yenn Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the test will not be required if you are an existing pilot in Australia and a long time resident. It was probably on CASA or Airservices sites that I saw it.
Guest airsick Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 This is correct Yenn. I should also add that the new rules only affect those who want to operate internationally or who were issued a licence after March 2008. From CASA: If you hold an Australian private pilot licence (PPL) or above and only fly domestically you will not need to take any action as you were assessed under CAR (1998) 5.09(1) as English proficient. You will be deemed as operationally proficient in English which allows you to fly domestically without any further action. ... If you intend to conduct international operations on or after 5 March 2008 you will require at least level four English proficiency rating which will need to be displayed on your licence. Furthermore: You will need to be assessed to at least a level four English proficiency to be issued a PPL or higher licence. I would consider (at risk of attracting some adverse comments) that a PPL is higher than a RRA certificate plus the RAA certificate isn't a licence anyway therefore there is no need to worry about this stuff if you are only doing the RAA stuff. If you do go ahead and do your PPL or higher then the testing officer should be able to pass you at level 6 if he has been approved to do so by CASA. crusty Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I speak Australian, does that count? I actually put that on forms that ask what is the main language spoken at home, haven't had any bites yet.
