pylon500 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 OK, We've seen the Spitfire's and the Mustang's as well as an assortment from W.A.R. Now there's another contender from Italy! How about a two seat, all metal Hurricane. The site is a bit slow, but worth a look.... Arthur.
Deskpilot Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Real nice, and with 2 seats, that's gotta be a winner. Don't like the sound of the Rotax though, a GM Isuzu would go and sound better.
pylon500 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Hows the LR-2 coming along Arthur? Slow I'm afraid, slow.... Still doing assorted things to the new house and around the property, have to change the engine in my car soon too..i_dunno Check my pictures in the link below. Arthur.
Deskpilot Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Arthur, did you get my pm. Would appreciate an answer if you did.
IanR Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Came across this site the other day - I think some are probably RAA registrable http://www.airdromeairplanes.com/ Looks as though they would be great fun. I particularly like the full scale N28
sain Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Thats sweet IanR... hmm.. i wonder what a full scale camel would weigh in at. i guess i read to many Biggles books as a kid.
IanR Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I doubt if the full scale ones would be suitable for RAA - maybe some of the smaller scale ones ?
sain Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 hmm.. empty weight was 420kg for the camel - 660kg fully loaded. come on 700kg rule!
IanR Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Is that the data for an original Camel ? I didn't see a kit one on thatw ebsite although I may have missed it. The stats for the full scale Pup are (sourced from a message list the builder posted to) : Aircraft Info Full Scale Sopwith Pup with the Rotec R 2800 Seven-cylinder radial engine (110 Hp) Wingspan 26'-3" Length 19' Height 9'-3" Empty Wt 645 Lbs Useful Load 300 lbs Stall speed 35 Mph estimated Cruise 75 Mph Top 90 Mph Wing Area 267 Sq. ft Wing loading 3.54 lbs per sq ft Power to weight ratio 8.27 lbs per Hp.
pylon500 Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 I think most of those era of biplane fighters could well be built full size, but at lighter weights using modern materials and engines. As an aside, dimensionally, the SE-5a is smaller in span than the Sopwith Camel, but longer in the fuse, (a bit more stable). Hi Doug, No pm's seen? Arthur.
Deskpilot Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Arthur, I'll get back to you later. A case of cyberspace robbery I guess . Pity, it was a long pm. Now that's got you wondering, hasn't it
slartibartfast Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Look in your "Sent Items" folder Doug. If you sent it, it'll still be there and you can forward it.
