Southeast Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Just got this info today. It happened this morning. A man has walked away from his burning plane with only minor injuries, after an aborted take off at Warnervale on the Central Coast. The single engine Jake Special, was taking off to the south and had briefly become airborne, when the pilot realised the aircraft was on fire. He managed to make an emergency landing, bringing the plane to rest about 500 metres south of the tarmac. The 29-year-old pilot from Hamlyn Terrace, suffered minor burns to his face and was taken to Wyong Hospital for treatment. He was the only person aboard the single engine plane. Fire services were unable to save the plane which was destroyed in the blaze. Police have referred the matter to Air Safety Investigators.
pylon500 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 For interest, the 'Jake Special' is/was a modified RV-4, VH-YWB. Photo Link.
Mazda Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I'm pleased he is OK. I was going to land a Warnervale a while back but the ERSA said PPR so I didn't. It that the case? If I'm flying by and want to drop in, I'm not permitted to land?
BigPete Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 What a shame - a lovely looking aircraft, someones pride and joy. At least the owner will be able to build/buy again! :big_grin::big_grin: regards
