Ultralights Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 that tends to happen after the Aviation industry as a whole gets treated as a money making business for the government, instead of being run as an infrastructure service like it should be.. steadily falling wages and conditions has not only led to a pilot shortage, but an ATC shortage as well..
skybum Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Easy, time, money and a change of attitude of management. Better pay than what is being offered overseas..Our guys are the best in the game and are highly regarded, unlike how they are treated here. Retention and training new blood. Improve the lifestyle a bit. Change the roster a lot so something human comes out of it. and Bob's your uncle. More money, more people and more respect. Simple:thumb_up: Now if you believe that, Ive got a deal on a bridge in Sydney that you are really going to like:cool: There is going to a world of pain to bring about serious institutionalised change for the better. A lot of people are going to get hurt before this is over. I just hope it is only egoes and not aluminium confetti.
Yenn Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 There will not be any change. CASA has got the government bluffed and Airservices is just another moneymaking concern with the controllers always crying foul and not wanting to exert themselves. When I compare the amount of traffic our controllers handle with those in the USA, it appears that ours are really pampered pets.
Mazda Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 According to the media pilots had to navigate all by themselves!
Guest ozzie Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Airservices Aust., wouldn't be a private company that has to cut corners, skimp on training, hire less talented staff (bludgers), ect, just to give the shareholder a huge dividend.would it?. or do they just follow that example? ozzie
Les Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Unsupervised Airspace Once again, the media have blown things out of all proportion. These heavies are all on clearances, have radio contact with the ground and other aircraft if necessary, have anti collision devices,in most cases they have other aircraft visual, are radar equipped, and yes, they may even have to navigate! Australian skies are not exactly overcrowded away from the major capital cities.Get over it!
Guest basscheffers Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Australia is one of the few countries in the world that allows passenger jets to fly through unsupervised airspace. Somehow I dare say the Europe - North America route is a whole lot busier than any of the airspace involved here and there is no radar coverage there either. And listening in ("channel 9" on United's in-flight music service), there isn't a whole lot of chatter either. Really only turbulence updates. ATC guys calling this a disaster waiting to happen is in their own interest - they want more pay and better conditions. Not knowing anything about their pay or conditions, I am not going to comment on that other than to say they can never have objective opinion on this subject.
