Hangars growing like mushrooms at Adaminaby

The Snowy River Aviators Inc now have four hangars built at “Kennedy Fieldâ€, Adaminaby, with six more in progress.

Over thirty club members met for their 1st AGM at the field in July 2008 more than six years since the club’s formation in Cooma.

A dynamic board was elected to serve the coming year

President: Brian Donnelly

Vice President, Airfield Development: Adrian Menhennitt

Treasurer: Ray Killen

Secretary: Jane Reid

Web master: Ross Glare

Publicity (incl. “The Snowy Flyer†newsletter): Gitta Steffes

Committee Members: Verna & Peter Davis, Ion Stott, Allen Caldwell, Gitta Steffes

2008 marked the most dynamic year in the club’s history. The last six months have proved Kennedy Airfield a place to be much admired, perhaps even envied, by flying enthusiasts far and wide.

Thanks to the growing enthusiasm of ‘flying’ fans in the general community and due to the relentless dedication of the club’s members, the Snowy River Aviators Inc can now call its airfield ‘home’. In fact, this small country airfield is now fully owned by the members. In 2007 it became the property of the club, making it one of the very few airfields in Australia to provide the absolute freedom and security that only ownership by club members can provide.

The hangars house a variety of conventional to rather colourful-looking aircraft; more hangars are due to pop up; the airfield boasts a 900metres long east-west airstrip (albeit at 3400' AMSL).

The next challenge for the SRA on the horizon is the building of a club house and attracting of more members. Trial membership rates for the first year are $50 per trainee/pilot members and $85 for families. Annual memberships thereafter goes to $75 per trainee/pilot and $110 family rates. The associate membership rate is $30 pa.

The existing members live mostly within a 150 kilometres radius of the airfield being from the Monaro, ACT, South Coast and Tumut while one member joined from distant Queensland. A member from the South Coast has recently completed a remarkable solo journey around Australia, being the youngest to ever do so.

Please note: The Official Opening of Snowy River Aviators will be held at Kennedy Airfield one kilometre east of Adaminaby on Saturday, 18th of October.

The club’s motto:

SAFE FUN, AFFORDABLE FLYING

Slarti have you got any info on that new aircraft launch that's happening up there soon? That really flash looking aerodynamic one?

Hi Kaz. Looking forward to it too.

I was only parked there because the weather was nothing like the forecast when I got there and I thought I was going to have to leave it there. It was bitterly cold and wet with the odd snow flurry. I'm still based at Goulburn and deciding whether to relocate or not.

Just in time to get back to Goulburn before dark (1.4 hours), things cleared a bit. A check of the radar on my phone confirmed the chances of getting home were good, so I had a peek with the option of returning. Got home easily.

If I move to YADY, I'll be in a different hangar.

It's amazing to see all these hangars appear after so many delays and struggles with the council.

If anybody wants to see some high country high jinks, come along to the official opening. Should be fun.

Cheers,

Ross

Edit: sorry Brent - you lost me?

Hi Brent,

This is the Aveo Australia web link http://www.aveoaustralia.com/page/Home.

The official launch here at the Polo Flat airfield in Cooma was scheduled for Last Feb, then March, then July, then Sept but is now slated for the October LWE. As happens delays in testing and release are the cause. The end product looks very impressive and the launch promises to be interesting. If you, or anyone else for that matter, plan to come please let me know ... I'd like to meet up with you. Hey, our usual monthly meet for the Snowy River Aviators is the first Sunday of each month so maybe a visit to Adaminaby should be securely placed on your "must-do" list that weekend. You'll be very welcome.

BTW, if you contact AveoAustralia they will gladly include you on their newsletter mail list to keep you up to date.

CU then,

Paul

Whoa - first I heard of that. That is one schmick looking aircraft. I had no idea that was happening at Polo Flat - where I started flying nearly 30 years ago.

Thanks Paul.
