Yenn Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I would like to see it, havn't fully digested the write up, but it looks to me to be a bit like that old French design which had 2 wings. Not impressed with the stainless steel fuse members, I would have thought that 4130 or mild steel would be stronger, easier to fabricate and most importantly less prone to fatigue. My cynical side says that it may be "in the sky" rather than "R squared"
pylon500 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Bit of an interesting concept, has been going on for many decades! The basic idea is that the wing sorts out all the angles that it needs to fly at, not allowing you to stall it. Some videos at; Spratt video's old French design which had 2 wings The Spratt differs from the 'Flying Flea' concept in that the Flea uses the tail as a fixed surface and pitch is controlled by varying the incidence of the whole front wing while roll control uses the second effect of rudder. In the Spratt, all tail surfaces can be fixed as pitch and roll are generated by the pivoting wing(s) alone. I say wings as each half of the wing (left and right) can be pitched independently thus giving pitch and roll. All sounds like a good idea, but the reality is that you end up with an aircraft with very limited control and doubtful ability to recover from any serious turbulence induced upsets. Arthur.
