Guest Mad Dave Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Hi guys, Having recently got my X country endorsement, I am looking for places to go. Has anyone got some ideas for me? I am flying out of YLIL, and wouldn't mind starting out with a few short trips, and then see how I go from there. I also just got my PAX endorsement, so somewhere good to take the missus would be good as well. (proximity to towns, good views etc). Any ideas? Dave
Guest brentc Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Try Tooradin - only about 30 miles. Restaurant on-site. Latrobe Valley 55 miles or thereabouts, BBQ on Saturdays at 12pm, lots (stacks) of Jabs there and a friendly bunch. Lethbridge - BBQ lunch at 12pm Saturdays Shepparton if that's not too far for you - Lunch on selected days That probably covers lunch days that I am aware of. Other destinations could include Tyabb, Torquay, Barwon Heads, Geelong, Sunbury, Coldstream:laugh:, West Sale, Yarram, Kyneton, Baccush March, Ballarat, Bendigo etc..... name your destination as there are plenty! If you're into Wine, then BrownBrothers winery. For me, some of my favourite destinations due to the scenery, accommodation, shopping, availability of public transport (taxi's) into town etc etc are Lakes Entrance, Torquay and Apollo Bay.
Guest Mad Dave Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Thanks Brent, A couple of people have suggested Tooradin, so I will give that a go! Lakes Enterance sounds pretty good as well. Dave
Matt Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Shepparton - on Saturday's for lunch. Kyneton - no specific lunch arrangements, but plenty of friendly folk around most weekends , some willing to run visitors into town for lunch or pickup bakery treats. Lethbridge - have a BBQ on a particular day of each month...can't quite remember which day though...but Brent did and beat me to it. Ballarat - another bunch of friendly folks. Tooradin - nice seafood restaraunt & cafe at the airfield...again Brent beat me to it.. Most importantly - let us (the forum) know when and where you're going, you never know who might tag along or meet you at your destination.

geoffreywh Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 why don't you drop in and see my mate Werner. He was in at the begining of ultralight flying in Oz. He's been in a w/chair for 20 years, has a lovely (very long) strip near Greytown. Still flies G.A. on good days..Loves visitors.....36.41'46".52 S....144.59'57".27 E......tel: 58562154
Guest brentc Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Good to hear Geoff - we weren't sure if Werner B was still around these days. We dropped in about 5 years ago (time flies by!) in 5 Skyfoxes and helped him watch his porn which he is well known for! (you'd know about that if you know him well)
Guest Mad Dave Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Thanks guys, These are all great suggestions. I will definitely post when I am going somewhere to see if anyone wants to tag along / meet there. Now we just need some good weather!! Dave
rick-p Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Hey Dave now you know where to go you better get an ASIC card so you know who you are when you get there
albert Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Lethbridg has a BBQ every Saterday rain or shine.
bushpilot Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 In a similar vein - any ideas on fly-in B&Bs or farm-stays or resorts in NSW?? Hard to find; really needs a dedicated website to aggregate them all....
