Guest Estrada Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Why dont you consider the Lightning aircraft. Basic kit around USD36K (simple and fast building kit). 175mph cruise with a Jabiru 3300.
Guest pelorus32 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I don't think Thielert is gone yet. Apparently they have had many enquiries from other businesses to take them over. Unfortunately for them however they may have lost their major customer in Diamond aircraft. Diamond is looking at using another diesel also from Austria to power their DA40 and DA42. G'day Pale, what I meant was that the business had succumbed to the ministrations of its founder in that it is in administration. How/whether it comes back remains to be seen. Regards Mike
Downunder Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hello, I'm not really surprised at the cost of the millennium. The exchange rate to any of the European coutries has been terrible for a while. The US is (was?) a far better return for the A$. The problem with the US manufacturers is that they are building/designing to suit the US rules/regs and our less restrictive rules mean that perhaps these aircraft are not developed to their full potential for the Australian market. It would be great if the yanks came out with an "Aussie special" version of their kits.
