YSSY Scanning question

Hi,

 

Great forum you've got here. Glad I found it.

 

My question regards to Sydney Atc frequencies.

 

Today there must have been something news worthy going down as there were 3

 

news choppers hovering above my house.

 

Thinking I might be able to get them on my scanner I tuned up 124.55 Sydney Radar.

 

I live in the sutherland shire which is definately Class C airspace above SFC yet I couldn't hear one transmission to or from any of these choppers. Sydney radar was busy dealing with all sorts of airwork in the Sydney basin but the heli's were never called. Do the news choppers use some discrete frequency for ATC or what? I listened for a good half hour.

They were probably on syd approach.. not syd radar..
