facthunter Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 welcome. Well ,what do you think of the drifter? Wouldn't expect you to be on top of it yet, but you never know. Nev..
Tomo Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hello Paul, Did you do that with Bob Keen, In dalby? That's who I'm hopeing to train with when I get anough money... He's a Nice guy:thumb_up: Might run into you some time, I'm from Cecil Plains... Did you get to go to the Wings & Wheels that was in dalby the other month? It was pretty good I reckon:thumb_up: By the way, what is the drifter like, my Dad isn't really keen on me training in that sort of aircraft, I think I may have to go for the Jabiru, even though it's a bit more exspensive... Cheers Tom:thumb_up:
Guest Rillert Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Hi Tom yes I am doing my training with Bob Keen. Yes he is a really nice guy and will be only to happy to answer any questions you have. I have been lucky enough to have been around aircraft for most of my life. So i have been both closed cockpit like 180s and austers and also open cockpits like trikes and it really is down to what you like most. As for what the drifter is like i have not done enough time in one to make a professional answer. But i can say what time i have done as been good if not tiring. We went to the wings and wheels it great the roulettes put on a good show only thing it was a bit short also they stayed to sign posters and stuff my son got a poster signed by them all and he was chuffed. Hope i have been of some help cheers paul
Tomo Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Thanks Paul, I hope your training go's well, and we might see you some time, around the ridges... Tom:thumb_up:
Guest Rillert Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 hi nev i must apologise for my lack of thanking you for your welcome message. well the drifter has a nice open cockpit which will take a bit of getting use to however so far so good. I am nowhere near on top of it yet but one will press on thanking you paul
facthunter Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Drifters. The 180 & Auster exposure won't do any harm. It's got a great view from the front cockpit as you are not aware of the wing behind you at all. To those out there who might be a bit timid about getting into this type of aircraft, don't think that they are not safe as others. Provided they are maintained and preflighted properly, they would be as safe as anything else. and structurally everything can be checked fairly easily if you know what to look for. Like all pushers, you have to be sure that nothing can fall off and go through the propellor. Nev...
Tomo Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Yes thanks Nev, I'm sure they are just as safe, but when my Dad saw one start up and the engine whobling about, it made him think that it might fall off!! (Where Mechanics:laugh:)....... Tom
