For those who were not previously aware, motorcycles were actually in use, even back in the day's of Christ, and were invented by a man named Moses.

 

I read this in a very old copy of the Bible which clearly stated that:

Ah.. a common mistake translating the ancient Greek text to English :

 

ο βρυχηθμός του θριάμβου του. has been mistranslated from το κουδούνισμα του θριάμβου του

 

it should have read "The rattle of his Triumph could be heard through the streets of Jeruselem"

 

Now we're talking legendry British workmanship!

I heard triumph engineers in the 70's were stopped from releasing a Triumph Television on to market because they couldn't figure out how to stop it leaking oil....

Well the biblical story obviously was not a BSA Gold Star - one of those things would have broken every window in the place and probably brought down a few mud walls!

 

My DBD34 certainly turned me into a mechanic though! Keeping it tuned and 'on the mega' was a constant activity and labour of love

Do you still have it now ? If not I bet you wish you did - they go for silly money !

Naw mate - long gone and part of a misspent youth

 

Life can be ironic can it not? I had the opportunity of buying the last Goldie made! Brand new and on the showroom floor in Nottingham. It was two hundred quid! Gawd knows what it would be worth now!!!!

 

But 200 was way beyond the means of an 18 year old!

 

I bought a second hand one that had been 'breathed on' by Taylor Dow in Banbury - and what a machine! Geared for racing but fully road going. 60 mph in bottom, 85 in 2nd, 103 in 3rd and 118 in top. Cost me a fortune in new clutches and replacement primary drive chains. They were hopeless in city traffic and savage on power delivery via the mega and extreme valve overlap.

 

Never regretted owning it though and only dropped it once (ice road).
