BLA82 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hi all, I thought I would start a thread on r/c Aircraft and what types we all own. I have a few myself consisting of a P-47 thunderbolt 70size, A 46 Size Extreme Stik a electric Yak 54, and a Eflite Blade R/C Helicopter. I thought we could also use this thread to bounce ideas of each other and share resources. My collection has srunk lately due to learning to fly weightshift but I have had and built lots of models so any help I can offer just ask.
Admin Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 That's great BLA82 - I have the BladeII and use to have fun with others who also had similar when I worked at Aust Air Express - we had a huge room where we went through blade after blade. I finished working their just when I was ready to remove the training balls.
motzartmerv Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Ive got an electrafun..hehe...best park flyer around i reckon, ive smashed many many other models trying to fly them..can't beat the electrafun ...is only 3 channel though..but $130 and spare wings $10 each...great fun, perfect for a quik aviation fix, see's me through till next flight..;) cheers

If you want a bit of fun a $30 Inrunner Brushless and a $15 speed controller and the electrafun turns into a out of controll rocket. If you do though tape a very thin balsa sheet through the centre of the wings. Otherwise they clap with exitement lol

Your more game than I am, My blade is a Blade CX2 counter rotating one, I cant fly the real one lol, BUT there always is a but. I have fitted upgraded motors, All aluminium swashplates, blade holders, fold back blades, carbon taol boom and a lighted flybar. It has gone from a $300 toy to a $750 mossie on steroids lol

Guest brentc Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Whatever the mode is with the throttle on the right hand side, that's me. Mode 1 from memory, like the Yanks and if you believe Dick, Australian aviation follows worlds best practice and the US are best practice
BLA82 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 MMMMM Mode 2 isn't that for guys who have the shakes and get aileron roll when throttling up lol Just kidden, Nice Collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I still had all of mine but I have been told only one hobby I just sold my Leo110 it was a sad day
Flyer Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Therefore if you followed the best practices, you'd fly mode 2 Brent.... throttle on the left and elevator/aileron on the right stick....just like your Jab 400....
Brett Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 * electric hurricane 550 heli * mini katana * harmon rocket 3 * 40 size sukhoi with some unknown electric conversion that is an absolute bullet and a handful to match. * a horrible 3 channel glider (dust collector) * century hawk heli with a 46 conversion Plus many many many more that are now in my memory only after some horrible moment
Flyer Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Nice jet Ossie.......had the misfortune to see one go in a couple of weeks ago at our paddock....on its maiden flight....thumb_down:sad: Damn expensive crash. Still unsure as to what happened but I know the boys were going to do a playback on the big screen to see what the elevons were doing.....
Guest ozzie Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I bought a DVD at airventure about RC Bloopers. basically very expensive models wiping out. whole section on microjets. wow very realistic. also dangerous. most entertaining was the jet that hit a large flag pole. The flag pole turned out to be a cell tower. that musta cost. interesting to see how some of the stall, handling accidents exactly follow the real life aircraft. Looking at getting some sort of park flyer soon. i have a park next door. and daylight saving coming up. anyone into lg scale electric? Ozzie

Mick Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 MMMMM Mode 2 isn't that for guys who have the shakes and get aileron roll when throttling up lol Mode 1 is for Bobcat drivers!!!!!!!!!
ossie Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks Flyer, Sad to hear about that maiden flight, I hope there's not too much damage and he's able to recover from it. The reliability of turbine models has come a long way in the last few years, not too many crash these days. For those interested, one of the country's biggest jet meets is being held this coming weekend at Temora airfield. There's sure to be some spectacular models and flying, and the price of entry gets you into the museum also... Cheers
pylon500 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I generally hate building, so I rarely have more than one model flyable at a time. Have been flying models all my life, well from about 13 anyway, and got into electrics about three years ago, including helicopters. Have a look at part of my model history here. Have just retired my Twister 3D heli, (worn out), and am currently flying a FunJet. Also have an electric CAC Boomarang, but it needs a few mods to make it fly better. Arthur.
rick-p Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I started out with an OS Pixie single channel, I think that I still have it somewhere in the shed. Anyone out there go back that far. I have a number of models, Bearcat MRM, Ryan STA MRM, Zero MRM, Gemini and about 8 or 9 other Aeroflight models, Skylane, Old Time with Saito 80 (I think) and another with a 65, a number of gliders and about 10 or 12 other home made jobs. There is also a number of kits of varying types. As for engines, numerous. Hi-Tech, Futaba, Sanwa and JR. The list goes on. I have been radio control modelling for the best part of 45 years now. The greatest hobby going I believe. The skills some of the radio control builders of scale models have is pure art. Regards, Rick-p
Flyer Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 There was something strange going on Ossie....the turbines as you quite rightly stated are pretty reliable and this one didn't miss a beat. The elevators however appeared to be moving independently of each other through quite an extreme range. One minute the jet was flying normal...next minute standing on its tail....and kept repeating this cycle. The pilot is quite competent and his observer also very competent so I very much doubt "dumb thumbs" syndrome.......damn scary when you see a 10kilo jet with a 100+pound thrust motor out of control....
ossie Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Wow, with a thrust to weight ratio of up near 5:1 that would be scary.......... What engine is it that's producing 100+lbs of thrust ? Bugger, it sounds like he had some kind of electronic or RF link problem. I hope he's back up and running soon  Cheers
Guest ozzie Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 My lazair would be interested in a turbine of 100lbs thrust. best i've read about is the olympus 50lb version. currently flying on 70lbs total. love to have a pair just for smug value.
Flyer Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 whoops, brainfade there somewhere. Musta got my conversions just a lot mixed up... I was thinking 10+kg of thrust which would be around the 22+lbs ...well....brain and thumbs not connected... Not sure what motor was in it to be quite honest although I understand that it was rebuildable unlike the jet itself.... Maybe a programming error....unsure just yet. I was at the paddock some time ago watching a jet being maidened and everytime the gear was selected up the engine stopped..... they tried it twice with the same result. The guy doing the test flying was as sharp as a tack, barely a mark on it from 2 engine out landings. Put the whole thing up on the bench and discovered that the chap had put the engine shut down routine on the gear selection switch as well...... Let me tell you there was some interesting discussions being had by the chap doing the test flying........and I believe a slab may have changed hands as well...
Guest sceadu52jr Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 1/5 Scale Bell47G My Choice from my small fleet is this 1/5 scale Bell 47G with a 23cc Spark Ignition motor. Only flown on nice days.... the rest of the time it would be sitting on a shelf above the TV....if I was allowed! Guest Cralis Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Wayne... what a beauty! I have a Trex 500CF Helicopter, a GAUI EP550 Helicopter and a BladeCX2 for indoor and calm outdoor days. I have just bought a GWS Slow Stick plane but it's not complete yet.. I got the wrong size prop for the brushless motor I put on. So, I haven't flown fixed wing yet.. I used to have a Trex450SE Heli and a Nitro Raptor 50V2, but.. am a electric flight fan, so the Raptor got sold, as did the 450. All flown on a DX7 2.4Ghz TX. I'm not a 3D person. I'm more into scale type flight.. and I have lots to learn. Here's some flights: YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. (I'm Cralis1 on YouTube..)
